Do damaged leaves still help the plant?

I'm working on my first coco grow, getting better by the day.
My question to you guy is do the damaged leaves still assist in photosynthesis or are they basically useless?
Do you guys cut them off, wait until next trim, or just leave them be?

you can leave them on if you like for a little longer or remove them. your going to have to remove it sooner or later, you dont want nasty leaves on your plant inviting disease.
but whats causing it is of concern

yes but some times a plant has a hissy fit and shows signs of some over or under fert problem but sorts itself out. it could be from too strong /hot a soil mix and just takes a while to get used to its new growing soil/medium. the new growth is fine and continues to grow well with no problems. i get it quite offten, but no harm to the plant except loosing a few leaves

Possibly a phosphorus deficiency...

I might be wrong but I always thought that if the plant is deficient it uses the nutrients stored in those leaves. So cutting them off without correcting the imbalance just shifts the problem from one leaf to another and reduced the surface area available for photosynthesis.

Dont know how correct that is but it makes logical sense.
You are correct, do not cut off the fan leaves.

Growing pains... Think of your plant as a timeline. If you had a problem, more than likely, you had a toxicity, or deficiently at some point.. But like @go go kid said, if your new growth is looking good, you're on the right track. And yes, at some point, those leafs are gong to be using up more energy than they are worth to the rest of the plant, and you should take them.

I like the way Ethos breaks it down for removing leaves as the link above. There are a few good reasons to take some leaves, but there are more reasons to leave them on.

Also, good growth at the top is a great sign but not a sure fire sign there isn't a looming problem just because the lower growth is showing the symptom. Phosphorus deficiencies start that way. Just making sure you got all your bases covered! Happy growing!

True!.... N deficiency does start at the bottom and work it's way up. Another good example brother. Lots of variables in this hobby/industry.

Wish it was more than a hobby for me, more like your setup! I definitely would love to work a professional grow! Part of me wants to go back to school and I'm not sure I've ever experienced that feeling before! Lol

It's alot of work, research, experiments, trial, error, failure.... but you get a good run, you get your spirit back. We've had 2 back to back bad runs with labs failures, and low THC production... but I need this one to count. Stressful is not even the word. It's not a lot of time, because they grow slow on the day to day, but making sure you have a good end product is a gradual thing you have to deal with...... and that's what stresses me out more than anything. I've said before.... I dont breathe till those labs come back. And im hoping for high THC and good terps.. and no microbes detected.

With money on the line it definitely adds stress to astronomical levels which is why I wouldn't want anything more than employment in that industry so I certainly feel for you there. I do this to de‐stress and it's sad to me that something you probably started from love turned to so much stress!

I helped run a tomato greenhouse back in high school and have been in love with growing ever since! My four plant DWC is a far stretch from a full production you've got but I have dreams of building a rather large greenhouse on my next property to mimic the one I learned so much in!

I'll be waiting to see some awesome pics from what is hopefully an amazing run for you!!
