I have read that plants stretch when they dont have light, I put my seed in the soil 2 days ago now i see it sprouting but its in the curled possisition were the stem is showing but not the tip, and was wondering if i put it under the light if it would stop growing since it found light and just stay there. or if i should put it in the dark and let it stretch till it gets some leaves. Thanks :bigjoint:

plants need light to live lol, even if they are seedlings. A way to stop from making the plant stretch is by placing the light usualy about 2 inches above the plant at all times, not causing the plant to stretch but just have a steady upwards growth. hope that helps :bigjoint:

I put them under light when the cotyledons (first round leaves) begin to show at all. In fact, I wait until the seed has cracked well, help the seed off the leaves, and place it under whatever light I'm using. You can just put them in a windowsill until this stage if it makes you feel better...

Not if you use HID lighting ... that is unless you want to bake your plant.

If you use CFL's that's cool but not in all cases.

the stem is showing but not the tip?? the tip as in: the seed casing?sounds like your seed might be stuck in the soil-sometimes you have to help them out a little. If thats the case, gently brush some soil away so the seed can stand upright-your seedling shouldnt be curling and the "tip" is the first thing you should be seeing. When it does sprout, throw it a couple inches underneath a t5 cfl tube, if you have one.

Wrong! When seedling leaves appear there is a need fer light!

All green portions of plants will absorb light rays, the leaves just do more of it and do it better than the rest of the plant. As long as something is out of the soil it can and will use light so you might as well give it to the plant.

Up until the leaves appear (which is very soon after crackin, n-e way), the seedling will thrive better in the dark, forcing the soon-to be leaves to look fer light. It is the same reason that ya dont give em nutes fer a while, except fer leaves, not roots;-)

I have a sprout right now and i was wondering the same thing. I have mine under a 15 watt cfl and its about 6 or 7 inches away from the plant. is this good it seems like the seed shell is stuck on pretty tight how many days after the seed sprouts do you take of the shell cause its open like wings.
