Do newly planted seeds need light?

I have 3 autoflowers. I germinated them the paper towel way. All 3 have cracked. I then placed them in root riot cubes. I was wanting to know if they need to be placed under light or just kept warm in a dark place till they sprout above the cubes?

Yes place them under light, at 18/6, small amount of light would be sufficient for now.

ok even though they are in cubes and have not broke the surface yet?

I use light just to warm the soil I have them in. It's kind of a mute point. they should pop up in just a day or two.

yes id put the lights on now, theres no telling ,when they will break surface and they will want light right away so they don't stretch. Plus they can sense the heat from the light and it encourages them to grow towards it

Just like Adjorr said, Give them the light to strive towards

And let the cubes get almost completely dry before watering, to encourage root growth. Do not over water, very common mistake mate.
