Sorry mods about posting this information in more than one forum please don't consider this as spam I just want to inform all gorilla growers and indoor growers alike too not take pictures with smart phones.I don't know about all phones obviously, but phones like the Iphone Geotag pictures unless your specifically turn the feature off. Even then though......When a picture is taken with a smart phone and a geotag is attached...anytime you upload that photo, you are uploading the exact location of your plants via lateral and longitudinal coordinates (GPS). All the eavesdropper has to do is download your uploaded picture and view the properties of the picture. All the information will be listed right there. Including the lateral and longitudinal coordinates. Be careful. I don't want any misfortunes to happen to anyone! Stay Safe

Good info indeed, but if your worried about geotags and unknowingly releasing info about yourself and your grow, I hope your browsing via an anonymous proxy that the providers will not crumble under threats of federal indictment.

Taking nothing away from your info provided but if the government wants to get you they have numerous shared resources/providers to strongarm the and get the info.

Sadly, such tactics are being used more and more here in Canada Thanks to Mr. Harper.

You should worry about using any camera that stores EXIF data.

LEO has been known to track camera serials via EXIF data and tie grow shots to other less anonymously shared photos.

all you have to do to turn the information off is to turn airplane mode on its stops everything from connecting to your phone take pictures and turn airplane mode off

I don't get this, but its safe to upload via your computer where you could possibly be able to track your ip? I upload via blackberry so are you saying I shoukd stop uploading?

If you use windows 7, there is a simple solution.

Before you upload it, go to your image in windows, right click>properties>details(tab)>remove properties and personal information(at bottom)>"create a copy with all possible properties removed" OR "remove the following properties from this file"(>check SELECT ALL[at bottom]). No extra information will be in the file you upload online.

High All,

Most cell phones do not by default include geotag data within the meta, below is all the information that my Samsung phone gives out when not turning off any default options.

This alone is not enough to be tracked, but combining other manafactures data with some other sleuthing can get someone the infor they require.

also, if you go to paint, which most computers have nowadays', simply make a copy of the pix you want to post, and this will also not copy any of the exif data..
then paste the copied version of the pix.. very easy.. :)

they cannot pinpoint ur location..they can tell like what country or city your in and near by businesses, UNLESS u have facebook on ur phone and u set ur location on facebook too ur exact address then u can pinpoint it( any other social media)..other than that u can only tell general location not exact.

Turn Location off. Really circumventing it is super easy and that is if you have the problem. I've posted pictures with over a dozen smartphones and none of them by default have location or geotag on unless you set it to. And even if it did come with geotagging enabled, Just disable it.

I took this pic with my smart phone, can you tell where?

IDK Where But I'd like to find out so I can smoke that MoFo!!

And the whole uploading thing its only if u upload pic from ur phone directly to w/e site, not if its done through another media correct?

or u can just turn gps off your phone and take a pic or just disable that function under camera settings on android. Very easy but good info for those ppl who did not know about this. i disable and then on top of that i use pptp ( point to point tunneling protocol). Alot of nice software out there for PPTP and so secure
