Do pistils withdraw into calyxes if plants are stressed?

Got a plant I defoliated the fuck out of sometime in week 4. I wasn't paying too much attention to what the pistils looked like before hand but I noticed afterwards for a cpl of weeks the buds had hardly any pistils compared to same plant last time having very pistilly buds all the way through flower, those buds also barely developed while in the pustill-less stage

I'm pretty sure I stunted the bud development with the defoliation but wondered if it was known that stressed buds withdraw their pistils?

Obviously I sont be defoliating this heavy again and this was a shitty learning curve but interested to know if the pistils was a symptom

Need pics.. before and after preferably. But defoliation for me has never hurt my plants. unless you cut more than half of the leaves off.

You Termiator’d them( swartzenigard) them need the leaves for photosynthesis
