Do plants grow as one or do leaves/areas discriminate?

Do plants grow faster/more at the areas that get the most sunlight or do plants capture and serve the whole plant evenly?

my understanding is limited but my thoughts are it works differently depending what stage they are in veg or flower, as they have auxin they reach upto the light, ive recently left some girls in a small pot for so long that the top parts are as expected/normal but the bottom is very thin all coming up inside the plant searching for light rather then going outwards to the side, with smaller leaves, they now look like that character of the simpsons sideshow bob!! yet they are all healthy, so I reckon the answer is they do a bit of both, in veg especially more so in flower whereas in flower it becomes more important to get the light to the areas where the bud sites are, (idealy allover lol)
I hope I make some sort of sense!!!

Areas of the plant that get more sunlight grow faster and usually have larger colas. Its why some people in flowering defoliate the bottom most branches that are not getting any light whatsoever, its just a waste of energy and usually yield small little popcorn buds when that energy could be directed towards the areas that are flourishing. Im not sure about veg but I think the same thing applies. I lollipop so I cut away all the small little new growth at the bottom a week or two before flowering

Well, actually, technically no, on the contrary. Auxins move away from the light causing the dark side to grow more, so it ends up growing towards the light, aka phototropism.

do plants capture and serve the whole plant evenly?
Well "evenly" is an overstatement but in general, yes. Phloem transport is a whole plant process, from leaves to other leaves, roots, branches and fruits.

Not a question you should ask in a cannabis forum, read about phloem translocation as well as apical dominance.
