Do plants have to hang upside down during drying?

I have a nice cardboard box I can put my relatively short autoflowers in for drying (I've cut holes on box walls and intend to keep it in an air-conditioned room) but it would be much easier for me to simply stand the plants up and lean them against the inner walls.

Would there be a difference in the final product if I don't hang them upside down?

I suspect the juices from the plant tend to go "down" due to gravity, so I wonder if this method would dry the plant too quick, would the taste change, etc.

Hanging them upside down has no effect on anything at all. You can hang them rightside up if you want. People just tend to hang them upside down by the branches because its easy to hang that way. Either way will not have any impact on your buds. Focus on proper drying and curing instead.
