Do You use under lamp temps or room temps?

My question is should i use under lamp temp or main room temp? The therm under lamps reads 79 degrees but all lamps are cool to the touch (but can still feel heat radiating when standing underneath or close).

Other therms like the ones on the ac units say its 72-74 in room. Should i go off temps under lamps or temps inside of whole room?

i really like cooler temps for color. but do not want any more holes. **edit** even if i cut hole it doesnt matter in a few months it will be warm again LOLOL

All temperatures should be taken in the shade in the area in question. So if you're growing in a tent, put the thermometer on a small stand about half way down the pot/container.

That's your real reading. Some people make the mistake of putting it in the direct view of the lights. That's completely wrong as you will get natural solar heat from the light in addition to radiated heat from the ballast and you'll almost always have very high readings.

Remember, it's perfectly normal to walk outside on a 75 degree day and the hood of your car be 95 to 100 degrees to the touch. The same applies to plants. They're perfectly used to 100 degree temps in direct light. But underneath the canopy you don't want that at all.

I've always kept a small fan blowing between the bulb and canopy to dissipate radiant heat so won't change that.

Just another whiny point of contention that really won't matter to your plants unless they are getting burned.
