Does Anyone Have AnyOpinions on keeping mother plants healthy and strong for cuttings

i have one question though should i be cuttin off the fan/water leaves ??



other than that any opinions would be greatly appreciated THANK YOU :)

When you take clones, ideally you should take them in such a way as to desirably prune your plant.

Think strategically. Don't simply remove some fan leaves and call it a day.

I have no idea what water leaves are.

Agreed, & also make sure to clone from the bottom half of the plant. It is also a good idea to put it into bigger pot than you would normally use since you will be keeping it around for awhile.

fan leaves are water leaves well some people call them both so while im growing my mother to become big enough to clone off should i be cuttin the fan leaves off ?

ya im going to be puttin them in a bigger pot they are in rockwool right now i will be transplanting them very soon there gettin big there a month old

Put Momma in a 5 gallon DWC system & keep right on vegging her out. Take cuttings 1-2 times per month & keep your perpetual harvest up & running.

If it's looks crap remove it.
If your going to use it remove it.
If you don't need it leave it.
If your having to cut off your mother simply because of room restrictions and are throwing cuttings away.... your simply not growing enough weed. ;) J/K

Since the plant uses those leaves to get big enough to clone off of, why are you so anxious to cut them off?

Use a little common sense here.

Or, if you're really determined, chop away at the fan leaves and see how the plant reacts. It will be a learning experience.

personaly i find it easer to start new mothers each time from the clones i take, rather than keeping the same plant long term ..

contrary to what many grow books say i prefer to take cuttings from the medium hard firm stemed shoots near the middle of the plant

i find the shoots in the most light at the top and middle make the best cuttings they survive and root quicker rather than the older more woody thinner cuttings in less light at the bottom

the stronger/thicker the shoot is the more it is able to deal with the harsh conditions of rooting, some smaller thiner cuttings can look like they have been through hell and back in the propagator while they root other more robust cuttings look like nothing has happend they are as green as the day they started

in the past i have kept mothers long term i grow nft and have found it pretty easy to keep plants healthy long term,
i would thin them out remove any weak thin growth and generly chop them into the shape i want
since they grow so fast i would be chopping them quite often before i actualy need new cuttings, so i find it less work to just start new mothers each harvest

i have found it an advantage in the past to take cuttings from very mature veg plants that have pre flowerd, or plants that have been rejuvanated as those cuttings seem to be so eager to flower it can help combat the streatch that some sativas suffer from and keep them more compact

Replace your mothers every 4 or 5 months - keep them young and vigorous.

Defoliating, removing fan leaves, chopping branches that won't be needed .... all are OK, the mother is there for a reason ... producing clones, not developing the perfect shape, structure or leaf distribution - it is there to produce clones so butcher it if needed.
If it is producing more than you need, prune away the excess and throw the clippings in the next batch of cannabutter.
If it is growing too quickly, selective defoliation slows down growth.
Far too many growing points, prune low down and let it regrow.

Hack, chop and mutilate - and replace frequently.

i dont think u understand what i mean its the main leaves coming off the stem that doesnt produce anything there just big leaves im not anxious i just want it to be done correct thats why im askin people like u to help me learn

We ALL understand EXACTLY what you mean.
Fan leaves may not produce anything as you say............. but their the buggers that keep your plant strong and healthy, they may not produce something directly for you but they produce alot if not most of what the plant needs to survive.
(You say "doesnt produce anything there just big leaves"........ SOOOOO WRONG).
75-90% of what a plant needs to grow actually comes from the air around it, and NOT from the soil.
How's the plant collect all these goodies....... THROUGH IT'S LEAVES primarily....So cut off too much leaf and you starve the plant.
It's a mother..............NO NEED TO CUT ANYTHING untill needed to clone. Then trim back.
If you do cut cut cut ..... you get this..................
