I started looking at netting, as my plants got damaged by the wind last year. The nets I've found so far look nice, but get expensive when you need.. "a few".
So I decided id try make my own. Currently trying to get my head around this:

looks nice and easy with nylon rope, but not so easy with twisty jute twine...
Anyone else make their own nets? is there a better way of doing this?

very tall stakes with jute tied around.horti netting is pretty cheap by the roll not the small stuff the hydro shop sell.

Try a fisherman’s Forum...;-)

looks like a fun project but that wont stretch like a horticultural net, I reckon if you wanna make one make it. I'd love to see how it turns out. happy growing l!

Hi there.
Ask the local fishermen.
Trawlers are forever wrecking nets, often they're discarded.
Alternatively a net shed will have a cheap supply of mesh.
I can sew nets, once tried to sew a hammock. It took forever.
Jute will rot and will quickly degrade with UV.

just an update: it took me about an hour last night to learn how to do this and complete my first net. its well worth doing.

your time is worth more than the small amount of money you are saving. They sell 5'x60' trellis nets on amazon for $10
Ya'll don't realise, I started smoking (a long time ago) because I'm a dirty hippy. That looks like a whole load of plastic to me. I think when I get good at this new skill, I could turn out 4 or 5 in an hour handy enough.

they turned out real well, and I'm getting faster at making them already.

@Kiwiweed is probably right, they may degrade quicker than other options, but at least they are biodegradable, and quick and easy, and cheap! (repurposed broken trawler net though is a good idea)
