Does it matter which node you use if you are mainlining?

Or can you kinda scratch/pick off the axillary buds on the bottom node and just use the second if the bottom one is too close to the soil?

Will it make a difference as long as they are all even height and from the same node even if its the second one? Doubt it considering the highest node (the cola) is the biggest bud anyway on normal plants so nutrient uptake shouldn't be noticeably different esp if you dont let branches grow under the main node you choose to use.

On the excellent MAINLINING thread Nugsbucket (?) mentioned specific nodes on which to prune, many times.
Jondamon and Budolskie also specify certain nodes in their mainlining thread/journal.

I haven't done it, yet, but from the advise given by these highly experienced growers (experts wouldn't be an inappropriate title) using specific nodes seems obligatory as a good practise.

It can be pretty much any node.

I chose a node with the 3blade leaf sets on them.

NUGBUCKETS uses the node with 5blade leaf sets.

IMO though any node can be used within reason.

Upon re-reading nugbuckets' thread, and looking at the pics, it appears the node he chose on one of the first plants he posts is several nodes up. He just stripped the bottom ones of their axillary bud growth and they either stopped or he kept stripping any new growth.
