does manually pollinating lower buds take from the potency of the main colas??

so what do ye think? i want to produce a small number of seeds but i dont want to loose the potency of my main buds or sacrifice entire plants as i dont grow that many, so i understand that the production of seeds requires energy that the plant could be using for buddage but is it such a substantial amount that i would loose bud quality further up the plant?

No! It does not! I've been seeding my plants early on then letting them go. It limits yield but not to any level that made me feel i didn't get enough. The THC is just as potent. I will now seed all plants I grow so that when I find something truely special i'll have a cross of it to focus on to find what i love over the long term.

Seed that bud! The way I do it is I put the male out 1-2 weeks before the females. Then when the female starts to show those twowhite hairs in like 20 spots on th eplant I pollenate those, then kill the male, the end result is nugs with no seeds in them yet at the bottom of each stem there are 2 of them.

I seeded my Agent Orange and it was way to potent a weed for me.

Course I don't sell it, i use it for myself and the person i'm caretaker for, and i make bubble and for butter for myself, so i don't worry about yield or weight (Seeds make the nugs heavier). If you are doing commercially for med patients then seeding it will give you less yeild, but for people growign it for the smoke its the best thing you can do for yourself.

I pollinate the majority of my females these days. Pollinating manually on the lower branches with a paint brush I am able to determine about how many seeds I want or need and where they should come from. I usually try for about 30 to 40 seeds per girl and 1 lower branch seems to be the right spot. It doesn't effect the rest of the plant in any way that I have ever found. A seperate area where I keep my current males away from all the females and collect the pollen, then store in a small glass airtight jar with a few grains of rice inside.
Only have been storing the pollen now a few months but so far so good. This can give you so much more freedom in choosing crosses and also for your back crossing instead of keeping male clones around longer than needed. I wish I could keep them alive but with my set up I would have problems in short order.
Good Luck and Happy Making Seeds

Thanks, I was also interested in this.
I was just wondering how long should I keep the males for, when do you pollinate the lower branches?

I usually pollinate most of mine after the 2nd week of flower, not from the 12/12 swithch but from when they first show buds. It really comes down to how many seeds you want and how long your flower time is. I like to leave 6 weeks for the seeds to mature although most are ready in 4 or so. The longer into flower the more pistils available per branch for pollination.
