Does mulch help hold in the smell?

Don't Worry Man. The smell calms down. Those microbes are eating that Craft Blend and farting up a storm. My wife says it smells like cabbage or something for a few days whenever I use it.

When I make a premixed top dress sometimes it stinks up the whole upstairs for a few days. I think of it as an earthy smell and don't really think it's that bad. At least it goes away pretty quick. It's the microbes working.

I don't think most top dressing smells that bad. Fish emulsion is horrible though. I'm sure you can find some really stinky manures too. I don't use the stinky stuff. I do use chicken compost but the one I use doesn't smell bad. It's also from BAS.

I'd add some Oly Mountain Compost in the mix, but the Craft Blend has a nice blend of stuff to begin with. You can always add more stuff as you go. My recroom is full of all kinds of stuff now.

And to answer your original question, No, Mulch isn't gonna help the smell from top dressing.
