Does my grow room really need an exhaust or ventilation?? Few questions.

This is my first grow and I'm trying to grow two plants in my basement. My basement is roughly 20' by 35' unfinished. Tiles on the floor, concrete walls with 4 small windows, beams and pipes running around on the ceiling.

My question is why do grow rooms need exhaust vents and fans blowing. Is it to keep keep the room cool or circulate the air? My basement stays around 70ish even on days when its 100 outside. Thanks.

it depends on what light your using hps or cfl? if it hps your going to need ventilation because them puppies will heat the room up fast, if its a couple of cfls then you can get away without it, just have an oscillation fan to move the air and plants around also if you've got no extraction fans then its going to be hard to control the smell( and they will smell):hump:

both. an HPS will throw alot of heat but also the plants need to breath,if they are in a room that size getting fresh air to them wont be essential (but still a good idea). what will be essential is getting air moving around the plants to remove the "stale"(?) oxygen rich air from the plants and bringing in the CO2 rich air.

Thanks for the response. And I'm not using any HPS lights, rather some 150 actual watts CFL. I might upgrade to the HPS if I can order them in time and find a good price. Where I'm growing the plants there will also be a small window about 3 feet away. I was hoping that would compensate for the fan moving air around. I'm just trying not to have anything moving while i'm away at work since my security system will go off and call the cops over, which would be the last thing I need.

best way to find out is just to turn em on without any plants in there for a couple hours and see how it goes.
my motion sensors are set up to my door and window alarms because I have a big dog. I can't imagine how much having your fan call the cops on you would suck lmao

cheapest way is airflow
get fresh air in and pump air out of room
