This is my first round growing out the S1 seeds of the DOG from Breeders Boutique.
I will be running about 9 of the 30 or so seeds i have and will be looking for a keeper mother. Doesnt seem hard considering just about every plant ive seen grown from them is a keeper.
My former set up was a 400w cmh in a 2x4x5 veg tent and a 600w hps in a 4x4x6.5 flower tent with a clone box with 14w cfl, humidity dome, and nursery tray.
Im planning to run dyna gro: Grow & Bloom only. Been testin them out lately and im done with all the additives. Still have some left over humic/fulvic and other organic additives from Blue Planet Nutrients that ill use til the end and that will probably go bad before i get to the bottom of the bottle.
Ill be running .8 gallon air pots for veg and then transplanting into 2 gallon generic htg smart pots for flower. Usually veg for a month with some LST or topping combo, then veg for 8-10 weeks. I usually pick around 8-9 because most of the strains i grow are short flowering, indica dom hybrids.
But im willing to go a full 10-11 to get some real goodness out of this DOG.
This time i have 2 of the 305w LED panels from growevolution.com. Ive been wanting to make the switch for a while and finally ponied up and did it. I like the multichip leds and have heard some good things from other growers on here about them.
So i will be using one side of one of the panels for the beginning of veg, then switch to a full panel once the seedlings establish themselves.
And for flower ill be using both of the 305w panels to replace my 600w hps. Also, considering the fans running probably use over 10w id say its a pretty fair match.
Im currently in the process of doing my post harvest cleaning of my grow room/tents. Taking out the A/C for the winter, cleaning up dirt, things like that, so i dont have any grow pictures yet.
I do have pictures of the leds that came in the mail the other day. That was the main hold up on this grow and now its just a matter of putting all the right pieces in place and firing it up.
Here is one 305w panel, i got 2.... And theyre nasty.
Each chip is 25w so they are rated for 400+ watts but are dimmed to 300 watts to help with heat.
No lenses just a reflector and a thin piece of protective plastic over each reflector.
One heat sink per light, one fan per heat sink. 8 multi chip leds, 8 heat sinks, 8 fans.
Dimensions are roughly 24"x12"
So when theyre both in my tent ill have a 2'x2' area of even light dispersion instead of the single high intensity source.
You can power up half of the board or the whole thing like most LED panels.
Had em runnin like this for an hour and they threw less heat than my 150w hps! I knew LEDs were cool but ive always heard once you got into the higher wattages they threw a little heat. The only place you feel heat is 1-3 inches away from the light and its about as hot as a 13w cfl you just turned on for 30 seconds. The open sides and back probably help alot of heat to be exchanged.
Here is a picture of the multichip led. Each light you see is an individual LED chip. Mostly red, then blue, then some UV/IR i think. (those 4 whitish ones)
So thats it for now. Pretty lengthy but there are more to come and they wont be so long.
Even some video journals for those who want to see all the dimensions.
Ill have some germination pictures up in a couple of days as well as a few pictures of the room before and after LED conversion.
For anyone interested in an in-depth LED comparison journal, growing one of the "hightimes strongest strains" of the year, then id pull up a chair.
Because im trying to make this the last time i have to pop seeds to find that amazing keeper pheno.
I love the DOG and everything about it and am going to grow it til DEATH!!!
