dolomite lime

Hi guys I was wondering how long does it take for dolomite lime to release into the soil? I have a plant in a 5 gal pot that is showing lockout... the soils ph is 5 .. Its been in its vegging pot for about 3 weeks now.... before I planted my lady I mixed a 1 1/2 cups dolomite lime with a 1.5 cubic foot bag of Fox farm ocean mix .... Should I top dress my plant to raise the PH or should my soil snap out of it soon??

any and ALL info, tips and directional guidance is much appreciated :)

ffof with a runoff of 5??? Are you feeding it? ph of your water? I have no lime in my ffof, and my tap is a little high, but it comes out of the pot at 6.3

Once it's moistened, figure a couple of weeks at least. Did you use powdered or pellets? Pellets take a bit longer, but they are nothing more than powdered formed into pellets with a fast dissolving binder. The binder dissolves with the first few waterings and releases the powder.

What are you measuring the pH with? FFOF has some oyster shell flour in it, though not enough, so I kinda question that super low reading if it's fresh mix.

You can top dress, it's hard to over apply lime, but I would wait a week or 2 to give what's in there time to work.

I wouldn't add any more nutes. FFOF is plenty hot all by itself for a couple of months. I also do not pH anything with a well limed mix, simply no need. YMMV

I use this aquarium Ph test drop I got at petco.

I used Pellets. I bought a big bag at home depot for like 5 bucks

Ill lay off the nutes and take your advise , hopefully the PH will adjust itself over the next week or so

If i decide to top dress in a week or so... How much should I use per gallon of soil, for the top dressing?

The stuff in your soil is more than likely changing the color of those drops and I wouldn't trust them.

IF you added 1 1/2 cups for the 1 1/2cf bag, you should be GTG. If you want to top dress, sprinkle some on the surface of your mix. A bit less than 1tbl/gallon of pot size.

Stop with the nutes, stop with the pH drops and stop pHing stuff. JUST plain tap water for a couple of weeks and I'll bet everything starts growing nicely.

If it doesn't, hit me with negative rep, but I bet it will.

Can you ever add to much dolomite? Will adding to much dolomite increase your PH over 7?
my experience with over-liming is limited to lawn grass, but yes, it is possible. the amount that was used was completely absurd and no rational person would ever use this amount. basically the entire lawn got covered with lime so it looked like it snowed (my friend was just "getting rid of" the lime :wall:). no green was visible. that is too much. if i were to quantify it i would say it was the equivalent of adding about 5 cups or more of lime to 3 gallons of soil. just outrageous. if you've ever heard "you can't use too much lime" disregard it. when i told the lady at the nursery what we did she thought i was full of shit. she said "i always heard you can't use too much lime in new england." my lawn was dead. lesson learned. (when it recovered it was sexy as hell, though. potted plants don't get as much time or irrigation, however)

lime gets the soil toward neutral ph. it is possible to over-do it and it will in fact fuck with your ph, but as mentioned above, you REALLY have to over-do it. i never hear of people over liming their pot plants, but i wouldn't call it impossible.
