Dr.Earth 100% Organic Soil

I just bought a 1.5 cu ft bag of this Dr Earth Organic soil. Seems like it has good shit in it. Like Forest Humus, Worm Castings, High country Chicken Manure, Aged Bat Guano, Norwegian Cold Water Kelp Meal and Micro-active concentrated Seaweed Extract. Also contains fir bark fines, peat moss, perlite.
Beneficial soil microbes plus Mycorrhizae.

I bought this soil at the local Ace Hardware, was really suprised they had some decent stuff there.

I wanna know what ya'll think about it. Would this work good for growin MJ?

I have personally used this stuff, and its okay. Especially for the price. I would certianly add perlite to it like a mother. This stuff is some super compacto stuff whether its dry or wet. It compacts within 3-4 weeks of growing. Another thing to watch for is PH flux. This stuff was all over the place for me. It started off great at 6.5-7 and then about a month in, it went all over the place. I was feeding a organic compost tea and that is it. I always checked my PH of my tea and it was on so it was really just the soil. I would flush it out with PH7 water and it would drop the ph, sometimes it would raise it. All in all, its a hassle soil to maintain, but it can be done. Personally, i stick to Subcools Super soil, or Fox Farms Ocean forest. Good Luck, Hope I helped :)

Thanks for ur experience. I will def watch the PH closely so it doesnt get too high.

I was wondering also since it has all those organic ingredients in it, Do I still have to feed them nutrients? I have never used soil that has amendments in it before so Im not sure.

I plan on using organic nutes also, Earth Juice is what Im thinkin of getting.

Anyone else?? Please!!

I really need to know if I need to add ferts to that soil and if YES when???? Do those amendments last for awhile for the plants nutrition needs????

Hell, ive been thinking about using this for Subs Super soil recipe. Im using just FFOF and it can and will burn your plants.

You might want to post this on Subcools 2010 Super Soil Recipe revised and see what everyone thinks about it. If you read it you will notice the Roots soil he uses, the ph also goes whack. But a lot of people are looking for soil just like this in place of the Roots, mainly becouse unless you live in oregon its harder than hell to get. I tried getting Roots soil but shipping for 6 bags was around $250 not including the price of the soil.

I apologize for taking so long to respond. It really depends on if you want to use nutrients. Nothing says you HAVE to. Moreso, if you do decide to, use something organic. I personally use subcools super soil myself and organic compost tea. So I really honestly dont have much exp. with nutrients other than all of Fox Farms, and they are not organic. Well, Big Bloom is, but all the others are not.

I paid about 12 bux for it. I feel it will be ok to use on my girls (hopefully girls). But if it makes the PH skyrocket then it'll be time to change.

See I know that Subcool's soil sounds wonderful, but I want to do my own thing. I really dont wanna spend tons of money on soil when Ive mixed my own and had no problems with it.

I still did not get the answer I was looking for. I NEED to know if I have to add extra nutes to it considering all the organic amendments already in it?

Well im going to say yes, you will need more ferts in it, just not right off the bat. probally in 3 weeks. I use the FFOF and it has alot of good stuff in there but i still have to use ferts a couple weeks into veg and all through flowering. Can you read your plants fairly well? Im not too great at it but can usually tell whrn itll be time to add ferts. Fert wise, are you talking about like pre mixed nutes like big bloom, tiger bloom, grow big you know the rady to use ferts or are you talking about raw ferts like individual ones such as bat guano, kelp meal, Blood meal, and such???
About the Dr. earth soil, i found some for 12.50. Have you tried adding anything to it like coco coir or perlite/vermiculite? Ill probally throw some coir in and som perlite and see how it does.

The thing ive noticed about organic soils is the ph often does fluctuate. If it gets to high add some lime or ph'd water at the ph you want it at and flush it using that.

I have not used it yet i have my babies in starter mix right now. I was gonna use it when I transplant them in to bigger pots. I am going to add some more perlite and vermiculite to it I think. Has perlite in it but not much.

I usually always add perlite too. About 8 parts soil and 2 parts perlite. How much do you usually add? The starter mix was a good idea for the babys they might have gotten burnt other wise. Mine did in a ffof mix but are better now.

I usually just add as much as I think looks sufficient for good drainage. Ive never used FFOF, I find it to be too expensive and I dont wanna have to drive 3 hours just to buy it @ the only hydro shop around. I know alot of ppl use it but I like to try new things myself.

Update: Dont use this shit!! It is not made for the ganja. I have used it and it sux ass! It seemed to overfertilze. Not good!!

If you use organic dry amendments you should only have to top dress your soil every 3 to 4 weeks
