drainage!

yo im starting out in bigger pots becuase im terrified of transplanting later on. i realize that this creates some issues with water drainage... so should i put some gravel or something at the bottom of the pot (under the soil) to promote better drainage? any other ideas?

big pots drain just like smaller pots. your soil is the real issue here.

1part perlite or(grity sand) and four parts muti compost.

my question was whether rocks at the bottom of the pot would promote better drainage but keeping the holes completely unclogged...?

i already have perlite and all that

you can put gravel or sand in the bottom.

userfriendly touched on the real concern but didn't elaborate.

rocks/stones..etc are not needed if the soil mix is light enough to adequately drain all the way through without compacting over the length of the grow.

30% perlite is a good place to start.

hi ive already transplanted my plants alls good but there seems 2 b water building up in 1 of them any way 2 fix this

Short of adding more pearlite, try adding some more drainage holes.

By starting out in pots that are simply too big for small seedlings you're creating far more problems for yourself further down the line than worrying about transplanting which is something you're going to have to do at some point if you hope to grow anything at all - so learn how to do it now and stop pissing about with gravel at the bottom of the pot - which isn't the problem.

Learn how to repot sucessfully.
(It's not my favourite thing to do either, but it has to be done, and it gets easier with experience!)
