MEDFORD, Ore. - The state troopers pulled over the pickup for speeding in the dark of night Tuesday.
Then the 565 small pot plants in the back of the rig got their attention.
That led to the 11 ounces of processed marijuana.
Not exactly the stuff warnings are made of, really.
State troopers arrested Antonio Velazco, 28, of Salem, Ore., and Ewdin Burgos, 20, of Corona, Calif., on suspicion of Unlawful Possession, Distribution and Manufacture of a Controlled Substance – Marijuana.
The two troopers pulled over the 2001 Ford F-150 Burgos was driving around 2:10 a.m. on Interstate 5 near Medford on suspicion of speeding.
The troopers then noticed the 565 small pot plants in the bed and back seat of the truck. The subsequent search of the vehicle turned up 11 ounces of pot, police said.
UPDATE: Jail officials later determined the two men gave false information to the arresting officers. Velazco is believed to be Jose Antonio-Velzco of Gervais, Ore. Burgos is believed to be Carlos Cardenas-Fonseca, 22, also of Gervais.
