I live in a very hot dry climate. My last harvest I used a separate 3x3 tent to dry in. Although it helped with my humidity issues it was still too hot (80°+) and I'm still having issues with the smell and taste of my buds. This weekend I was fortunate and my neighbor randomly gave me a small window AC unit that was still in the box and never used. Said he had for years and was going to toss it if I didn't want it. I took it and cut a hole in my drying tent and taped around the face of the AC inside the tent to seal it. I made a cardboard baffle for the back of the AC unit to channel the hot air through a 4" vent hose to the outside. Everything works great, the tent gets cold and heat from the AC unit is vented outside.
My question is do I still need an exhaust fan for the inside of the tent itself? I have a fan to circulate the air inside but I'm not sure if I should exhaust the tent or not. My guess would be no because exhaust fans are supposed to get rid of excess heat and humidity inside the tent. The AC unit should essentially take the place of the exhaust fan and get rid of excess heat and humidity on the inside on it's own. Am I right NOT to vent the tent with an AC unit or should it still have an exhaust fan for the inside of the tent?
