Drying question temps

My plant has been drying for 6 days, i trimmed it up and jarred it last night. however its still a little too wet.. so right now i have the lids off.. however the temps are in the 50s is that too cold? I think it needs one more day of drying and it should be ready for cure. Thanks

That's kinda cold. Usually when the air is that cold. It's drier then (less RH) at 70F. Drier air will get things to dry out too fast. You'll have less compounds breaking down in the drying period that would have done better, with slower drying.

Ideal is to be 70 F and 50% RH. It should take about 2 weeks to dry to the jar point.

Jarring should be done when you can bend the stems and they crack and not just bend. If they crack in half easy like. They are too dry and need to have some moisture put back. There are little moisture packs called Boveda. I use these in all jars, no matter if they are at or near the proper RH for curing.
They ensure an exactly perfect RH for proper curing to take place.

stupid jars, those for storing, not drying.

50 is cold. prolly humid too eh? will grow mold likely.

put it in a dry place, around 70-75 some air flow/exchange and leave it be till the twigs snap, now smoke it

I like using a hygrometer in my jars. Got the idea from a post from a gent named Simon on this site. It works good, been using the method now for 5 years. I shoot for 62 - 64% RH in the jars. Never have mold or too dry of weed. I usually set out a few buds the day before to dry down a bit for rolling purposes. Maybe I can find his post...

ok thanks guys.. i got them in a better temp room now around 70 on the dot. there still in the jars but like i said the lid it off. i had to jar them because i didnt have room in my dry box. i have fresh plants taking up all the space.. and since the ones in the jar are at about a week drying i think thell be okay to try out in the jars with the lid off. ill also invest in the humidipacks as well just incase

I thought bovedas were the shit til i found out they last 1 or 2 months in the jar before becoming useless. They become brittle and hard and need to be changed

I've never had to dry mine more than 4 or 5 days before jarring. 70 to 75 degrees @ 40 to 45% RH and you're golden.

But if you're hanging the entire plant to dry before jarring, that's your problem. NEVER do that. That's a lazy tactic used by volume growers that don't particularly give a damn about quality and is especially stupid given that you're going to have to trim it all down eventually anyway.

Always cut your plants down to the individual stalks and hang to dry. You'll never have to dry them more than 4 or 5 days before jarring. Most cases, it's 3 or 4.

Mine were good in about 4-5 days as well. No huge long colas but nice stuff. It's great when you only have yourself to please

Yeah I think we all learned somethin from Simon back in the day. I remember reading his musings when he was here. Didn't always get greated very well though.
I like using these as aposed to hanging whole plants. I trim wet and use controled humidity to dry and cure.

thanks guys for all the replies. another quick question. i just checked the buds and the actual buds seemed dry and crispy. but the stems still bent instead of a dry break. does this mean they still need more drying time. I also ordered some of the humidity packs

Boveda's will take moisture in too....Just don't get them actually wet. Put them in a humid sealed climate and rotate then from jar to climate....They'll last a lot longer!

These are popular, I got the white gauge of ebay the cookie jar local, the lighter inside for scale ..lol

many growers dry and cure inside but I've found it best to hang for 10-14 days

then to the jar, venting daily for about a week

You're drying them too fast, ruining your nose, possibly bringing a screeching halt to your cure. Another thing that I've noticed is that the buds of those who dry too quick seem to be less sticky and weigh considerably less. Could just be their grow methods, but I attribute at least some of that loss/vacancy to a lower level of oil "retention"/drying of the oils along with the bud. Too much/too fast/Too Furious. :bigjoint:

No I'm not. Everybody I know does the same exact thing. You can't "dry too fast" in 4 days at room temperature and 45% humidity pal.

Now, I've seen people on this forum dry in an oven in a couple hours and claim that it's perfect...which I think is bullshit...but if you think too fast is 4 days at room temperature, then...well...good luck with whatever bullshit you're doing.

While still attached to the stems, sometimes big stems, the plants dry slower due to the moisture they are drawing from the stem they are attached to. Good technique. I've always been told that a slow dry and good cure really improve the experience. I believe it. But when it's ready to cure it's ready to cure. Impossible to rehydrate with good results.

Well Mac, You ARE drying too fast! So fucking what if "everybody" does it like that there......They're WRONG too!

Except I disagree on rehydrating.....You can rehydrate and the cure will restart. The quality of the trich's is still going to suffer though.

You're missing the point, idiot. They're NOT that dry when I jar them. I have to wear surgical gloves and even then the shit sticks to me like glue. I don't have to leave them out for 8 days to jar them. If you're doing that, then you have an issue with it either being way too cold (The OP's problem) way too humid, or you left the plant in one piece like a lazy ass and the stalks water is taking forever to evaporate and all you're doing is increasing the chance that mold can set in.

If it's stem is cracking at 4 days - that's too fast!

If your actually jarring at 4 days and the stems are still bending and not cracking - your too early.. Either of those- make you wrong!

The use of proper English to actually describe what your doing and when....Tends to make for clear understanding by the actual educated people around you.

PROPER drying should take around 2 weeks! PERIOD..

I let my cannabis dry in a 2x4x5 tent with a small box fan on low for 7 days. I trim it up and place in Plain brown boxes or brown paper bags for 3 days then I jar it up and wait one week before I crack them. If it smells like teen spirit I seal it up and put it away.I believe that cured weed is stronger because during the process the water leaves and the mass is decreased and the cannabis is more concentrated ergo the content is actually more potent. I am no expert anything but its my opinion.
I wont jar any cannabis unless I can hit a bowel and it burns without having to light it more than 2 times and I see some white ash. It cures slower than when I used to do the leave the cap off every day and all that jazz. Man I am lazy.lol
