DTW with small pea-sized hydroton ONLY?

Thinking about a DTW system where I can reuse the media. Hydroton is preferred here and I can reuse it.

Anyone tried this, or thinks it may work or not?

OR just flood and recycle the nute?

Flood and drains work all the time with netpots full of hydroton.
