dunk new clones?

I just bought some clones from a local Oakland club. Last time I bought clones there they turned out to have thrips, and eventually they developed some powdery mildew. Would it be a good or bad idea to dunk the clones in the thrips and/or powdery mildew stuff (Monterey Garden spray, Serenade) before I put them in the grow room as insurance against future problems? Or would that hurt the clones? Or is there something else I should dip them in? Cervantes's book say vinegar mix, but that didn't do any good last time.
