DWC Cleanout

I am new to growing, as it just became legal in Michigan. I started 3 plants on Christmas day. 2 Blue Haze and a Mango Kush. I am growing in soil, so obviously my question isnt so much for this grow as it is just a general knowledge question..

Growing in soil I have read to finish the last 2 weeks of the grow without nutes. Just plain ph balanced water to get any chemicals out of the plants before harvest.

How does this work for hydro, or more specifically (if it differs) a DWC setup? Do you replace your nute water with plain water for a bit at the end of the grow? In soil I suspected there was enough nutrients left behind in the soil, but if you are switching your entire root system to just water, this wouldn't affect anything negstively?

What your referring to is called "flushing." The idea is to get all the harsh chemicals/nutes out of the plant so that when you harvest/cure the final product is "smoother". Like the human body plants store food/energy and will use it when it can't find it readily available.

So the same idea for soil applies for hydro. In soil you will still have some nutrients that have built up, but it won't be sufficient to feed to plant, so in a way the plant will slowly starve (which is what you want.) The same concept applies to Hydro and DWC. If you flush your DWC tank and fill only with ph'd water the effect will just happen slightly faster and more dramatically since their are no residue nutrients for the plant to find, so it will begin using its own reserve much sooner.

Well if and when you get it to the finish line I simply do my rdwc (when I run it) like this when you get to the final couple of weeks simply reduce to around 200 or so ppm there’s no need to starve your plants. The final couple of weeks are when you plant will on a good bit of weight. My plants and many others on here finish their plants healthy. Meaning they just a healthy shade of green as when they started. In soil I run either my own soil or like I’m doing currently I’m running dairy doo which. All those grows get is water and a recharge for the whole grow. They typically finish the same nice a green. Focus more on learning how to feed properly ie don’t overfeed and proper drying practices.
