In the decades that I have been growing cannabis I have read about countless growing methods. After much trial and error I decided to go with DWC. In the 15 years that I have been growing with DWC I have learned a very easy way to grow from seed or cutting to mature buds that works every time if adhered to. Here's the way it works for me, and it's really simple:
1. Fill a five-gallon bucket with distilled or 0PPM purified water to 1-inch above the bottom of your net-pot lid.
2. Put a one-inch layer of clean hydroton into the net-pot.
3. Place a seed in the center of the hydroton and cover it with a second one-inch layer of hydroton.
4. Turn on air pump and keep room temperature at 70F - 75F degrees.
5. Add lighting. I use a set of 32-watt 6500K fluorescent bulbs and keep them a few inches above the plant.
6. Plant should sprout within seven days. Do not add anything to water until plant is one- to two-inches tall.
7. When plant grows second set of leaves add nutrients to water enough that PPM meter tests at 200PPM. I use Botanicare CNS17 Grow and a few drops of Cal-Mag.
8. When plant reaches six inches in height add nutrients to water enough that PPM meter tests at 400PPM and keep it at this level.
9. When plant reaches the size that you want it to during vegetative stage, switch to lighting used for flowering stage and add flowering nutrients to new water enough that PPM meter tests at 400PPM and keep it at this level.
10. A few tips that I use to avoid common pests is to add one drop of chlorine to the nearly four gallons of water and hang a No-Pest strip in the room for a few weeks at a time to avoid pests of all kinds. Keeping room temperature as close to 72F degrees as possible is optimal, and keeping PH levels as close to 6.0 as possible is best for growth.
This works every time for me with no bugs or contamination. I don't start the plants in one place from seed and then move them into the DWC after they start growing, I just let the seed grow right where it's going to live its entire life and avoid the problems associated with transplanting. If you do it the way I outlined above, your plant will be one to two inches in height within a week of planting your seed.
It's a little different to do this from a clone, but the same principles apply. Follow the same directions as with a seed and add nutrients once roots have grown a few inches out of the net pot. You don't need to put cuttings into a cloner to start out, just allow them to clone in the DWC net-pot.
Hope this helps! I am sure there are plenty of DWC growing instructions out there by now, but having information like this long ago would have saved me years of trying and failing. This works every time.
