DWC noob, making a system for autos?

Hi guys!

Im in the middle of growing 3 autos in soil as my second grow, but for my third I want to try DWC!

I've looked at all the premade ones available on the market but they seem expensive for what they are and I feel they would be a bit too big for just one auto.

My questions are, If I wanted one self contained bucket/trough to grow 3/4 autos in:

what sort of volume would I need?

How much air flow?

Can It be done?

Also, Could I adapt a premade bucket, by changing the lid to one with more than 1 site on it?

Thanks:bigjoint:

1 5 gallon black bucket with lid.
1 net pot
1 air stone
1 air pump

That's all you need mate. check VoidObjects How To: DWC, quick, cheap and easy.

He wants to grow 3-4 plants so a 5 gal is too small. He could put 3-4 buckets together but that's a lot of extra nutes.

I'd suggest a Sterlite 10 gal tote with 6 gal water. Cut holes for 3 5/8 netcups in the lid. Figure an extra one for an access port. You can make 6 holes, start 5 plants, then cull down to 3. Plenty of good airstones and a powerful pump. Everything else is lights and nutes.

ps I run several of these and grow plants 3-5 ft. Start with good seeds (fem lets you start with less space) and good hydr nutes. I use Humboldt Master A&B

Follow that and you cant go wrong mate... Good spot dude didnt see he wanted multiple plants in the same bucket.

Good luck mate

Hi guys, my space is only 47cmx40cm so that 10 gallon tote wouldnt fit in! Im thinking of doing 1 5 gallon tub, with two sites in the lid for two small plants. Would this be feasible?

Also what sort of volume of air would I need? can I get a cheap pump (96l/h) or for a little more I can get anything up to 480l/hour dual outlet pump. Would I need an airstone under each root cluster or would one be enough?

The 10 gal tote I'm talking about is only 12 x 18 inches so I think it would fit. The more bubbles the better, I have a double Boss Hog diffuser in each of those totes! The pump needed depends on the airstone used. The little aquarium pumps are so good IMO. I would be concerned about heat in a space so tight.

Ah well I googled it and only found one that was too big for my space. Found a nice 24 litre container that will fit really well, gonna make it into a two site thing, I'll get the more powerful pump with 2 air stones, one under each site.

Im growing in soil at the moment, and temps are not a problem, 26 degrees c is my average temp with lights on, drops to around 22 lights off. Would the lights on temp raise the temperature of the water too much?
