DWC question

Using a Rubbermaid tote with air stones glued to the bottom, how far down into the water/nute solution do the 3 inch net pots need to be?

To the best of my knowledge (been looking into doing DWC myself once I get a waterroof PH tester), you don't put them in the water. You keep them about an inch or 2 above the water. Just so that the bubbles bursting keep the net pot a little wet on the bottom but not actually sitting in the water. If they sit in the water I'm pretty sure not much oxygen gets to the middle of your net/medium and you risk root rot.

You don't have to glue the diffusers to the bottom, but if you're worried about noise get those soft bubble wands.

UM.... In my experience. you can fill up the water as high as possible. doesn't matter and also try putting a black garbage bag with no holes at the bottom of the res... open of course with airstone and hose in the bag. the res changes are way easier and you don't have to clean it. peace and love

When the roots are small like in the picture above then keep the water level touching the bottom of the net pots so that the splashing will keep the bottom of the rockwool moiste but not soaking the whole cube.... once ur roots develope furthur then u can lower the level of the water so the bubling caused by the air bubbles will break and splash the bottom of the net pots..... your roots will get so big they will be touching the bottom of the DWC setup so you wont half to keep the water as high after the roots develop... but if you allow the water to get to low then it can cause nute burn.. this happens because the PPM will rise when your water level DROPS... its kind of ass backwards but i burned my plants this way a few times using a 3 gallon DWC setup

I like the fact that the water level drops. It just means you HAVE to add more water which will make the nutrient solution less. In effect you don't have to worry about overfeeding as much because the plants get less and less nutrients until you feed them again(which should be when you change the res every week or 2). You don't have to worry so much about how much food they are getting because you know there is still a lot in the res.
