Some people do it different, some change solution once a week, some once every two weeks.. some flush once a month.. it varies.. I personally just Refilled mine when it was low and added the needed nutes. I was using an 18gal res for 4 DWC plants.. they got about 5ft.

Str8.dro: they pretty much answered your question but I'd like to add something. Unless you have a way of checking the amount of each individual nutrient, changing them regularly is the best way to restore it back to what it was when it was fresh. The salesman at the hydro store says to change it every week but then he sell nutrients. I do it every other week and my plants seem to be fine. A PPM meter will help. A new batch of fresh nutes will read about 1100 to 1200 in my reservoir and two weeks later it's down to about 600 when I recycle it to my outside garden. I hope this helps.

Look into the Lucas Formula. It's stupid simple and some guys get 3 grows from one reservoir change.
