I wash my reservoir in the bathtub with dishwashing detergent after every changeout.
I dont reuse the hydroton though. It seems cheap enough to throw away, most of it gets stuck in the roots anyway and it seems like bacteria etc, could get trapped in the crevises. But if you soak them in a sanitizer for long enough im sure it would kill most of that.

:joint:Hook pump to garden hose, pump out. fill 1/4 full, scrub with soft bristle brush, (siding brush). Pump out again while adding water. Easiest way I found.

I think it is essensial to clean your reservoir every water change (at least every 2 weeks) and I scrub my tables after every harvest. I'm all about the garden hose hooked to the sink, it makes things so much easier in the long run. And I clean my gear in my basement laundry room which has a drain in the floor.

Cleaning hydroton is easy enough. Do your best to remove all the roots you can from the rocks and then dump them into a laundry basket with holes smaller than your rocks. I then give them a good spray of hot water, add a light bleach solution (about 1 part bleach to 6 parts water), let sit for a couple hours and then rinse very well and you should be just dandy. I also use H2o2 in my reservior, so i'm not very worried about the odd speck of dead root matter left behind.
