Ebb and Flow reservoir Lid question??

I was wondering why these things don't come with Lids for reservoir. Does anyone know where I can buy a lid for this thing?

I have seen some ebb and flow grows where they did not have a Lid on their reservoir also. Is it really needed? If so then why would they sell it without one?

Can I start growing without one?

I have almost the same setup except my tables are 4x4.
I don't have lids on the reservoir neither, since they are right under the table they don't get much intense light and i don't get algae growth at all. I run airstone and change water every 2 wks. My only concern about it was to break the table when it's full of water with these frame. I cutted a leg of 1 1/2" pvc and put it in the middle of the table(the leg sits in the rez) to support the massive water weight.

So what do I do??
Fill up the tray with hydroton grow rocks

Put the seeds in rockwool

put the rockwool in the tray

And grow?

Is that pretty much how it works??

Also how many plants can you fit in one of these things?
