Edible Help - Decarboxylation

Yesterday, I decarboxylated my weed, roughly 10-15g~, I first read that 250f at 20 minutes should do the trick. I ended up cooking for an hour because every time I returned to the weed it was still just as green as before. When I pulled it out the weed was still in a mixed phase of green and brown. This was my first try and although the weed didn't look as browned as other peoples I thought it would be fine. I first tried eating the weed just to see if it could get me high, wasn't able to stomach much of the leaves but they weren't getting me high I didn't have much so I just thought I wasn't having enough.

Today, I made the weed in to a butter. I did the by mixing the weed and 1/2 lb of butter in a mason jar and then putting it in a crook pot for 3 hours at 170f. I am trying this weed butter and it does not seem to be getting me high. Any ideas, I personally think the decarboxylation stage is where I messed up. Is there anyway to fix the mistake?

I can make actual edibles like cookies or something just not sure how it would work if the weed isn't decarbed right.

My wife bought me a decarb/infuser. I don't even think about it anymore. 1/2oz of weed 1 stick of butter, push a button.

Personally, I don't think you decarbed for long enough. @250 I let it bake for 20 in a jar, agitate, repeat twice more. The 3 hours in the crock pot would have only infused what little bit that was decarbed completely. In 20 minutes, that's not much.

It was in the oven at like 250f for 1 hour so I thought that would be long enough, if my cannabutter is really green could that be the reason. Also is there a way to continue the decarbing.

I'm not an expert but I would decarboxylate at 175 for about 1hour, and then cook it for 5hr but not let the temp go above 180degrees. ill get a pic really fast here what it looks like.

You using bud? I've done 240f 40 mins and turn every 10 mins. You will smell it but not much need to look at color I don't think but never did it with fresh bud. IF you added 1/2 lb of butter to 12g of good bud I think you would need to eat 1/4 teaspoon to feel a tiny bit if you are a lightweight, or 1 teaspoon if you have a really built up tolerance. It can take several hours before you get really high.

I think 20 mins would have worked though.

If you ask a number of different people what temp, and how long to decarboxylate- You get a number of different answers. I think it depends on what you are "cooking" and the texture.

Somewhere between 225 and 300 degrees F and between 40 to 70 minutes in an oven. How dry the pot is seems to play a role. The dryer it is- the less time it takes.........

225 degrees for 75 minutes is what I go by- but my buds tend to be a little moist when I do it..........

I grind it to a powder and put it in gelatin capsules or add it to food. One or 2 gelatin capsules will get me going for some time.

I simmer the trim in a large pot of water for 20 - 30 mins, then add butter and mix for another 15-20 mins. Use a cheesecloth to squeeze every last drop of butter from the trim. Refrigerate overnight. Separate the butter chunk from the water in the morning. This method creates intensely an powerful experience

One thing I have noticed about edibles-

If you are new to them - then it is a lot easier to overdose on edibles than smoking it.

Be careful out there...... it takes a while, maybe 30 minutes at least, to get a full effect. so many keep eating it and end up paralyzed on the couch................ or worse

I've made brownies with canna butter before, but I prefer making canna caps with coconut oil.
Cuts out the sugar........besides, the taste of anything with cannabis in it makes me gag.

Reminds me of the first time I had ever tried to make edibles. I had no idea what I was doing we just tossed weed into brownie mix shit was terrible.

Edited so it makes some sense. No more talk to text. Got it.

I do it all the time. I put broke up buds in a mason jar, about an oz and a half, and put in oven with the lid on at 240 for 40 minutes, shaking once. I then fill it with vegetable oil until about 1/2” above the weed, and stick in the crock pot full of water on high for an hour, than low all night. Strain through cheese cloth, and that’s it. My wife makes brownies out of it. I don’t smoke or eat it, but she says it’s great. She eats a brownies every day.

It seems like 3 hours in the butter should’ve converted enough to feel it, especially with heating it before hand.

there’s some decent guides on makjng butter or oil with an instant pot, I usually use mine to make coconut oil for gummies.

Eating weed is definitely different than smoking it tolerance wise. Some people aren’t affected by edibles, I’ve seen a guy eat 1000mg and feel nothing. Then I have a friend who I smoke with all the time and we have similar tolerances. But I’m super lightweight with gummies and he’s not. I can get real buzzed off 5mg and he needs like 25 to get the same effect.

they usually take right around 2-2.5 hours to fully kick in for me too even though I start to feel it at 45 mins.
