Electric outlet capacity?

How can you tell the amount of voltage or amps a outlet can handle?

Find the circuit in the electrical panel and it will have a rating. Likely 15 or 20 amps. Then multiply by 80%. 15 amp can handle 12 amps on a steady basis and a 20 amp can handle 16 amps on a steady basis. Anything more than that will trip breakers or heat up wiring inside the walls.
