one standard household outlet with two plugins can handle 15 amps on each plugin right?

i hope so...i currelty have a 1500w ceramic heater and two 26w cfls in one plugin and on the other a 250w mh and two 6 inch desk fans...if the above is correct, i think i should be okay...14.1 amps on one plugin and 2.27 plus the fans (which i have no clue what the wattage is) on the other plugin... shouldnt be up to 15 amps on that one either.

does all this sound right to you guys? anyone have an idea what a 6 inch desk fan's wattage would be?

thx

The 15 amp is for the entire circuit. Once it exceeds 15 amps any where on the circuit, it will blow.

If you have a fuse panel and not breakers you might want to cheek to make sure you dont have a larger fuse than 15amp.a lot of people just change their fuses with what ever they have around the house,so there is a chance your fuse might be larger than 15amp.With a 1500w heater and a MH I would want the right size fuse.:joint:

Oh yeah, that 15 amps is for the whole circuit not just one outlet. Check to make sure what else may be wired in with it. Turn off breaker or pull fuse and see if any lights or other outlets lose power. You are already pushing it on a 15 amp circuit. Good luck.

Standard 15 amp circuts are capable of an 1,800 watt load for short periods, the long term rating (duty cycle) for any circuit regardless of the amperage is 85% of the total load capability,in the case of a 15 amp line after taking into consideration the duty cycle the sustained load can be no more than 1,530 watts.
