A little history lesson for the youngens.


The name Elohim is unique to Hebraic thinking: it occurs only in Hebrew and in no other ancient Semitic language. The masculine plural ending does not mean “gods” when referring to the true God of Israel, since the name is mainly used with singular verb forms and with adjectives and pronouns in the singular (e.g., see Gen. 1:26). However, considering the Hashalush HaKadosh (Trinity), the form indeed allows for the plurality within the Godhead.

In the traditional Jewish view, Elohim is the Name of God as the Creator and Judge of the universe (Gen 1:1-2:4a).

“The Holy One, Blessed be He, said to those, You want to know my name? I am called according to my actions. When I judge the creatures I am Elohim, and when I have mercy with My world, I am named YHVH” (Ex R. 3:6).

In the second creation story (Genesis 2:4b-ff) the Name of God is revealed as the Sacred Name YHVH (from the semitic root that means “to be”) and expresses the idea of God’s closeness to humans. YHVH “breathed into his (Adam’s) nostrils the breath of life” (Genesis 2:7).

but, I do read alot more than the average person and I dont take one persons word for it. on anything. ever.


just because my mom or teacher told me something doesnt mean that I can't try to find an independant un-biased answer to everything and anything. I am not spoon-fed by any type of bullshit, sorry its just not me. I have been here since 2008 and I dont think my whole time here I have ever posted about anything religious. I am not a religious person, BUT....that doesnt mean I have not studied the teachings and do not know what its spoon fed bullshit and whats REAL and whats there is REAL translation, not a version of something that was written 500 years ago when before then half the letters we use today was NOT in any human language. so...how the fuck can you translate something that cant be translated with the letters that we use? well its called mis interpretation.. I seek truth a beauty in ALL things. real and imaginary. if someone questions on what i beleive is the truth, i am not going to let you call me wrong, or a liar, sorry, i just cannot allow for that. Iloveyou all but its seriously time for me to log off this wonderful interweb. bye

and ive posted in the wrong section...

to bad the other thread closed. it could have become a fantastic religion fight. and i do so enjoy those. especially when some dumbass is about to get schooled...

You will NEVER find an unbiased answer.:shock: That's one of the major problems in journalism, AND if you're looking for your answers in the written word you'll have a better idea of the reality of truth if you follow the admonition in the New Testament about spending too much time and effort diligently examining each and every word and punctuation mark of the scribe and spend your efforts on understanding the MESSAGE, or INTENT of the written word. Words are an imperfect way to get ideas across because almost every word has different meanings and you don't see emphasis either which adds a lot to the meaning. Sorry dude.

It's like an old joke about an actor preparing for his first one-line gig. He practiced his one line for days in various ways: "HARK, the cannons roar", and "hark, the CANNONS roar", lastly "hark, the cannons ROAR". All the same words, same meanings, different interpretations. That is how people get roped into following unscrupulous politicians and religious leaders.:wall:

its closed for a reason we dont allow religious, or politic talk in TNT it spoils the mood because its a topic that people have VERY STRONG views on things

While I have ZERO doubts about an afterlife, I do question the bible as it is written today. I believe that religion was hijakced by the establishment a sa means to control people; promising heaven to the obedient and hell to those who are not. When you give hope to those with nothing, they are easier to keep down. I think Marx's "opiate of the masses" was spot on.

Im reasonably sure this thread will be moved and probably rightly so but i hope it continues in its new home. I have no "trollish" intentions and if Im being argumentative its not with any ill will. You stated that the word Elohim was found in no other ancient semitic language besides Hebrew. I had believed that the first 5 books in the "Old Testament" were originally written in Aramaic, which pre dates Hebrew. (examples found in Dead Sea Scrolls) Can you elaborate on your statement concerning word origin. Peace

that was fucked up. im amazed it didnt get locked or deleated. so far as iknow anyway. lol i havent went back to look

Idk... maybe its just me but I saw that as more of a "bullyfest" than a "trollfest". People trying to make you see their way as the only right way to view something. I didnt see anyone trying to force anything on anyone here. Just someone trying to explain the origin of a word. Demonstrating the word in the context of its original use doesnt make this a "religious" discussion, necessarily. The only ones i saw trying to "force" any opinions on anyone were the anti-religious crowd.

Wow! That really did turn into a bit of a spectacle though didnt it? lol. That thing took off like a rocket. (And there was a bit of trolling going on as well. lol.)
