Hi RIU followers,
I have just built a cabinet for vegging - dimensions are approx 60cm x 60cm x 90cm. I have lined the inside with polystyrene, fixed the light horizontally at the top with a reflector above, and added a shelf to keep my babies at the correct level of height (didn't want to lose any valuable vertical space with a big reflector and easy-rollers). I have one large air intake pc fan at the bottom (12cm) and two smaller exhaust pc fans in the top corners (one is 8cm and the other is 6cm) to create good airflow within the box.
I tested the box by putting some empty pots at the highest point (where plants will start at their smallest) - which is approx 2 inches from the bulb (what I have read in many places is where they need to be). I placed a thermometer and ran the lights with all the fans on for a couple of hours. When I went up to check the temp it was 43 degrees C!!!! I thought that these bulbs were supposed to be cool.
Can anyone help with suggestions of how to cool the bulb???
I was thinking of putting another 12cm pc fan blowing directly at the bulb (from the opposite side to the fitting) to see what difference that would make.
Any help would be much appreciated.
