How long do seeds take to pop and show a tap root doing the soak and paper towel method? I decided to try it since I have been having issues with my seeds popping direct in soil.

Cant give an exact time but usually within 2-3 days. I give soil germination longer time to pop but if seeds dont germ on paper towels within 3 days it's usually a dud for me. Are these the $2 seeds not popping bc I wouldnt be surprised at the crap germination rates, im just saying.
yep they are the 2 dollar seeds, I didnt expect 100% germination, but I figured i would at least hit 50/50 which, so far, has not been the case....

I would be sending them an email but it says the $2 & $5 seeds are not eligible for germination replacement. You figure for $2 they could send replacements smh

I hope it shows up, I'm guilty of digging them up (gently) to see what's happening.

I prefer to soak them until they sprout then sow them, that way i know what I've got.

Good luck!
Nah these are in a paper towel not in the soil, figured I wasnt having a lot of luck in the soil so i would try the paper towel.

what's your germination rate of what you've started?
i had a dud from greenpoint - didn't pop after 4 days, when the other 3 seeds already had 1" long tails. i started another one, and sure enough it germinated in less than 48 hrs.
i would move on after 5 days.

well, I am 1 outta 5 that sprouted so far. I honestly think I might self half the plant just to get some fresh more viable seeds.

For paper towels, make sure it’s at “field capacity”. It should be decently wet but not dripping. Give it a bit of a squeeze after you’ve wet it, and then put your seeds in there. Fold it up to make good contact, and stick it in a baggie. Keep the baggie puffed up to keep some air in there. Keeping it warm will speed up germination - slightly above room temp (About 80*F). Coffee filters work well too, and if you get an aggressive root, they are less likely to grow through it and tangle up. The magic should happen in about 2-3 days. If not, check to see if the seed has at least cracked. If not, it might be a dud. You can sacrifice a seed and squish it to check if it’s viable. If it has an embryo inside “white fleshy thing” it’s probably viable. If it doesn’t it’s a dud, bud.

I read something somewhere that if they sink after soaking they are viable, if they stay floating for a day they are duds. Both of these sank, I am doing the process exactly as you discribed, and they are setting on top of my computer to keep them warm. I think it looks like they are KINDA cracked but cant really tell.
