Eye hortilux hps vs random.. whoa

Ok this is nuts... not all bubls are equal.

That used be true a long time ago, but I thought it changed...

I recently looked at a hps bulb test that found these generic(yield master ,ipower etc) threw out identical light to every bulb.(ushi , sun master, digi , etc)

with the super hps being a outlier-around 20% brighter

maybe i got a bad batch of hps bulbs ... ...

i tested 600w super hps vs the apollo and the difference was crazy tangible..

I wasnt super scientific but the hort was hitting 700,00 lux 2ft below a ss2 witha peak lux of 1050,000

the apolo was hitting around 400,00 peak of 700,000.

facts.

also build quality is much higher... on the huper hps

also by the eye test the super is much less yellow...

just wanted to share . Should have made a video, couldn't find tripod..

another thing to note is the super seemed to putbout more heat from the bulb... yet my temps actually went down...

Bizzare. With the generic bulb its cool as a cucumber on the glass..

The super felt slightly uncomfortable around 1ft...

This one I saw , Cant find the other one that was less biased .
They tested ipower vivisun..

One rule I have always lived by with HPS lamps... If the cost of a Super Hortilux prohibits you from replacing it at least every 6 months then you are probably better off in the long run using cheaper bulbs that you can afford to replace each run.

I almost always bought hortilux when using single ended, but agree if for some reason you can't a new bulb is still better than an old hortilux.

I haven't tried hortilux in the de fixtures, but recently saw they had a ceramic hps bulb for the de and kinda wanna try it. Right now I'm using Phillips.

I have ran the Hortilux DE 1kW and it's nice and all but I prefer the Philips.

Ipower has good reviews on there 6k and 10k de mh bulbs, I just ordered a ushio hilux grow for my next run, it should be a step up from the budget bulbs I ran the last time. I can see a difference between the eye super hps se over any other 600 hps I ran as well.

I had a toss up between the philips and the hilux grow pro plus. I saw they have a 1150w bulb too.

How long do you chaps use a hps bulb?
After a crop I'm a dubious about a 2nd and usually replace them, I'd happily not replace them tbh but only if I'm wasting my money, what do you guys think?

If they are good HPS bulbs like philips or hortilux I like to replace them every 2 runs. In my case that means they have about 2300 - 2400 hours on them. Beyond two runs the production really starts to drop off IME. If I am using cheapo bulbs then they get replaced every run, no fucking around lol. The cheapos, in my case, are the single ended side lighting bulbs and the pricey ones are the primary lighting 1kW DE's overhead. The 1500 watters that are bare verticals between rows, those I plan on replacing every run because I got a bunch of bulbs on a super awesome deal.

I look at it like this, if a bulb has lost 10% of it's output then lets assume that equates to 10% of the typical harvest numbers. You would have to be a really poor grower for 10% of a crop to be worth less than the cost of a new bulb. Lets assume a gram per watt, 1000 watter losing 100 grams of yield would be no bueno, thats nearly a qp so even at $50 a zip the "lost" weed is worth more than a new bulb.

Thanks @Renfro I've a similar attitude imo it's to much effort and money to fk up for the sake of £30, I've actually just noticed that I can get a green power for £40 iirc they were £70 4/5 years ago???
Is this the same green power bulb as the trusted Philips horticulture bulb ?

Yea man this really opened up my eyes to how superior the hort actually is... ... it looks like most the cheaper ones are prettydamn close in performance where its negligible... but like u said i think the hort last longer with the cheapos replace often. Yieldlab i want to say is one thst outperformed ushio and had decennpackaging.

im about to test the horilux mh400 w...its on a magnetic so thats already a bad handicap.. well see tho
And id ur scratching ur head on the 400 i meant to buy the horilux 600mh . But i do like to use the 400 in small smapces stays super cool.

in other news cooltubes cool about 30% better but the light spread is completetrash ur loosing light butb
Better temps.. it has potential tho. Id say vertical cool tubes in an space hard to control temps would be very worth it . They really do cool much better... but i feel like a 150$ quantum led would put out better light than the 600 in it rn....

Haha super want to build a vert cooltube grow now.. infucjing hate rock wool tho... hmm wouldn't even know where to begin with the pod.. a box would. Be easier .. hmmmmm
