EZ Cloning...my @ss

Ok, so here's the deal. I cannot get this Super Silver Haze to clone with much success. I've tried Ez cloning (home-made), rockwool, and a damn bubbler. I've been successful about a dozen times out of probably two hundred. The ones that have rooted, I've been able to keep as mums, but this is ridiculously frustrating!

Rockwool has not produced anything for me, heated mat or no heated mat. I've kept it really damn dry and way too moist. They stayed alive dry but after three weeks, I gave up. I've tried the rooting powder too, no help.

Ez cloner has produced some results, but never before three weeks. That appears to be too long of a time when others are saying 6-14 days. I've tried Rhizotonic, no Rhizotonic. Warm water ( auto-heater at 78 ) seems nice, but hasn't helped much.

Bubble cloner hasn't produced anything either...above the water line or below the water line. I've tried a cheap-o pump from wally's world and a hydroponics pump.

I haven't added nutrients, except for the Rhizotonic and Super Thrive at times, have tried keeping the Ph in range sometimes and other times said to hell with it. The lights are 1-26 watt cfl about 12-16 inches away from the clones. I've tried big clones (See Al B. Fuct's 9 inchers) to small 3" clones. They've both worked...and failed. I've made the last cuts underwater at a 45 with a sterile blade and other times said screw it. I've cut just below the nodes and said screw that too. Both have worked, both have failed. Temps are constantly in the low 70's, but the root zones are always high 70's with a consistent cleaning and h2o2 dousing to keep the gremlins at bay. Lights were at 24/0 but I figured maybe I should try 18/6 now. I know, I know, don't try too hard, but it still isn't working!

I need something, maybe a miracle to make this crap work. If you read all this, maybe I can get some advice...I am officially now at my wits end...ok, maybe not, but DAMNIT! Oh, I do have ONE in flower which I am pretty proud of if I do say so myself!

I am 100% at cloning...........looks like your clones are a whole branch...WTF.........u need to learn how to take clones it looks like.....fuck the cutting under water....or cutting @ an angle......take the clone off the lower branches split the stem and put in cloner..........put rooting stuff in water mist them daily.........make sure u put a air stone in their other wise the water will get all slimey....change water when it does!!!!
its that simple!!!

So this is my first post but I've been lurking around for about a year now and been growing for just about as long. And so far on my indoor grow I have never grown anything from seed. Even my first plant was a clone from a friend. That being said I have about a 90 - 95% success rate at cloning.

I use a 1' x 2' black tray w/ a clear dome for it, a heat mat, rockwool cubes, clonex rooting gel, and a 2' floro w/ 1 soft white and 1 cool white lamp. Also I use tap water and ph down until it's ph is around 5.5. I get out my razor and clean it with isopropyl alcohol to sterilize it. I look for a good healthy branch at the bottom of the plant. I use the ones at the bottom of the plant because I've read they contain more of the hormone needed to root. I count down to the 3rd node below a growing tip and cut it at a 45 degree angle also cutting off the last set of leaves right above my cut. My clones are usually pretty small, only about 4" or so but they fit under my dome very well. Next i use the dull side of my razor to scrape off the outer layer of the stem exposing the white-ish material just under the surface. This is the stuff that will produce roots the quickest. I also split my stem down the middle about 1/4 of an inch to expose more of this layer.

All of this should be done relatively fast because the quicker you can get it into the rooting gel the better chances of not getting an air embolism. After that I let it sit in the gel for a few seconds and them move it to 5.5 ph soaked cubes in my tray. I squeeze the tops of the cubes so it holds the plant tight and keeps air out but not enough to crush the cubes. The more the cubes can breath the better later on. After all my clones are lined up in my tray I put the clear top on and the 2' floro's right on top of that. I check them every day taking the lights off and the dome off to let them breath some fresh air but thats about all I have to do until they have roots popping out of the bottom about 2 weeks later. I unually use no nutes but have been known to add some at 1/4 strength to their water. They shouldn't need much water at all. In fact it seems to me that dryer I can keep the cubes and the wetter I can keep the air the better the clones survive. Mind you the cubes should be damp and not bone dry but also soaking wet is no good either.

I hope this helps you some. ~Namaste~

Ok...so I cut some stems...now I'll wait.

What I did find, the ones that looked okay but had been in the home-made ez cloner for almost a month now...they look ok up top and the stems were hard below. When I sliced the stems though, there appeared to be some mold actually inside the stem. Any ideas? No way were these things gonna root, but I would have never known without slicing the stems open ( other than them taking over a month and still now results! ) No pictures 'cuz I didn't think about it...

is that system the Daisy cloner? I was thinking of getting one of those. and what kind of hormones do u use and at what strength?

JD you might want to try to raise your light. The reason that most people take cuttings from the bottom is becsause it's easier to root as it's still soft and flexible. It looks like your mommas recieve plenty of light so they develop with minimal spacing at the internodes which is perfect for growing buds but when trying to take clones you have to cut off parts of the plant that took a long time to form and also have a very thick stem. I think that if you move your light up a little your shoots will be more elongated and have less foliage to support while it roots. Just a thought.

That is something...not sure if it will help, but something I'll try.
The lights are close to the mums. Every clone that was cut ( in the picture or not ) is from material that was not older than 2-3 weeks because the mums grow that fast with the lights close. Up above someone said my clones look like branches...but that material is not older than 2-3 weeks ( usually 2 ) . Should I be cutting clones newer than that? Hmm...maybe that is one of my problems?

i fail every time i use rock wool use a neoprean collar dip it in clone gel put it in the cloner and forget it in a week it root almost 100% of the time

i use a home made cloner with 8 misters a 250 gph pump ez cloner neoprean plugs and 24 sites I'm at 100% success rate

btw i don't dome or msit or run an air stone just a bit or root juice in the water and forget them

i have a t5 4 bulb about 2 feet above them and they do great

your problem i think is the single 26w light at 12 in away. that light is not powerful enough to do even a single clone really. put like six of those about 5in away and see if that works

I use a homemade aero cloner and have about 90% root for me. I dont use anything but tap water with the PH at 5.8. Cuttings DO NOT like a lot of light. I use a pair of 23 watt, 6500k CFL's about 18 inches above the cuttings. Cutting seem to do best between 60- 70 degrees. Warm = algae, and algae is not our friend. Should show roots in a week, but some strains have taken up to a month to root. A time or two something has gotten out of whack and I have to beat my head against the wall until I get it straightened back out. Even so, I am sold on cloning.

I feel your pain. I have tried several 100% sure to work methods also and still nothing. This built a aero clone bucket that sprays the stems (not the roots cuz they never grow) I have the pump on a cycle timer 1 min on 5 min off, olivias cloning solution, cut dipped in hormone. 2 weeks still no roots.

That is just fuckin' fantastic. You know? I have the 1 min on, 5 min off deal too. Tried the 24/7 on technique, but got nothing better. If I can't get rockwool, bubble cloner, or ez cloner to work, where does that leave me? Jiffy pots? Rapid Rooters? I just don't want to go that route. I've got to be missing something here...
One person swears by cold water, another swears by warm. One person swears by one light, another says you must have more. Who the hell knows...
Anyway, any merit to the following idea? My water comes out at 250ppm at the tap. Maybe I should buy some water with a lower ppm and try that? Also read to try a lower ph...like 5.0. Any thoughts?
If I can just get past this damn cloning problem, I'd be on my way to being a w33d 13ar0n. Gotta laugh some time I s'pose.
Oh, help and ideas are still appreciated! :dunce: :wall:

I am having the same issues. I have no idea what the hell is going on. I have had no trouble up until this last strain...and even got decent results the first set i took. This last set just wont get legs. Frustrating as hell. I am dumping everything tomorrow and starting over with fresh ph'd tap water that has set for 24 hrs to get the chlorine out..

...I use simple tap water, dechlorinized
ph balanced @ 6.0, keeping res. temps around 70. I don't use any rooting hormones or fertilizers or humidity domes. I use one single 40 w cool white flo,24/0 lighting, and I keep my pump running 24/7. After 10 days they're ready for veg.

...cut your clones from the lower part of the plant, they have a natural rooting hormone.
