DETROIT Authorities say they cracked a major marijuana ring in the Detroit area that involved 22 people and two dozen homes where a purple variety of pot was grown and sold.
An indictment unsealed today in federal court says the ringleader was 33-year-old Brian Osburn of Belleville. He's charged with conspiracy, running a criminal enterprise and aiding mortgage fraud.
The 24 grow houses were in Wayne, Oakland and Washtenaw counties. The indictment says some houses also were used to get mortgages through identity theft, forgery and phony appraisals.
Osburn is in custody until a court hearing Wednesday. It's not known if he had a lawyer.
The Drug Enforcement Administration says Osburn's purple pot was more potent and expensive, selling for up to $5,000 a pound.
