not really.. fem'ed beans can be caused by stress, so your kinda right.. but the way that most breeders do this nowadays is by a chemical reaction .... they apply a certain chemical, usually colodial silver to a female plant, which in turn causes the plant to put out male flowers.. if you collect the pollen from the male flowers on the female plant, you can then pollinate another non hermied female plant to create feminized seeds.. you can also use the male pollen from the hermi'ed plant's female flowers, but this tends to give more hermi traits to the offspring, thus it is more preferred to use the male pollen on a different plant that wasn't forced to go hermi..
you can also cause a plant to go hermi the way you were asking about by stressing them out with light schedules or leaks as well, but its not really the preferred way to do so.. some people will say that fem'ed seeds will have a higher tendency to go hermie being that they come from hermi parents, and this can be true with certain breeders, if not all, but the better breeders have more stable fem'ing techniques which result in a much lower frequency of hermi offspring..
