Feminized seeds - but I actually want males

Some of the strains that I want seem to be only sold as feminized seeds. I've never bought fem seeds before, but I wouldn't mind having some males to do some breeding experiments and also to generate my own seeds (the damn things are expensive).
So do fem seeds turn out males? Or is there a way to encourage some to be male?

I've heard that with the modern methods of feminization, hermies are much less frequent and the plants are pretty stable: would this apply to the males that result from fem seeds as well? Do they have any chromosomal weirdness?

Stress will change things. Light leaks, different temps, I can't say what all but I know they will roll on you.

I am sure that is one reason they do not do it. ^_^ the same reason some strains are only obtainable by clone long before seed.

Ga3 and colloidal silver also work (sometimes). I think all 3<Ga3, CS and STS> will produce fem seeds though. TGA and Mr. Nice have a ton of regular seeds. I just picked the closest thing I could get to what strain I wanted to play with (in regular seeds) and crossed em. I did it for fun and curiosity so I wasn't too concerned how close the seeds were to the mom. Some were pretty close and some were way off. Grew out a ton and crossed the male most like the mom back with the mom......I guess it could have went on forever, never got exactly what I wanted (except a LOT of average bud for smoking/cooking/extracting and making concentrates)

I have grown fem. seeds for years from the reputable breeders. Even have made mother plants from them w/ no problem. You get waht you pay for imo. If you want to make your own seeds, buy good seeds...

I think we should stop supporting breeders that only produce fem seeds. Maybe there is a high demand for fem seeds or they just want repeat business. Without males you can't make your own seeds so you're back knocking on their door for beans. I guess there is herm or stress induced pollen, but that's not natural.

Uhhh...that's where cloning comes into play I think. Cuts down on turn around time too. But then you knew that.

All for cloning females from natural m/f seeds. Above poster has made a mother from a fem seed and I'm sure others have as well, but finding a mom that doesn't herm could be a task.

another idea is not to harvest, at some point due to nature´s survival, the plant whil make a polen sack and it will polinize the flower, but you wil have to continue flowering at least one more month after the plant is ready to harvest
I was going to point this out but you beat me to it. I may be wrong but I think this is the only plant in the world that does this. What does that say for the importance of this plant?!! BTW, great thread!!

yar, this is the way to do it. When a female goes too long it'll hermie and all the seeds will be feminized

hmm, so I gather that the consensus seems to be that germinating feminized does not produce any males? Or on the very rare occasion that a male results from one of these seeds, you wouldn't want to use it because the seeds resulting from it's pollination would be more feminized seeds?

Just to clarify, I'm not trying to generate hermies or pollinate using hermies in any way.

I guess you guys kind of answered my implied question which is: do breeders do this only sell feminized seeds so that we can't generate our own males, and thus be completely dependent upon them. I get this from a business standpoint, but it is kind of shitty and annoying. Although it is probably good for many who have no interest in breeding or creating their own seed supply.

Usually you can buy feminized or regular seeds of the same strain. Lot of people who have say medical cards and limits prefer feminized so they don't have to worry about going over their limit to produce females.

Only thing you'll get from a feminized seed is a female or a hermie. If you want more seeds you'll have to over flower it like we said and then you'll have more feminized seeds.

It's a legitimate offering but most do have regular strains as well. It's more of a convenience to growers than anything else. If you've got an indoor setup and you know how many plants you can successfully grow, it's a total crap shoot to use "regular" seeds; you might get any percentage between 1 - 100% males so it makes a lot more sense starting a grow knowing exactly how many females you will wind up with, rather than vegging for a few weeks until you can sex them.
