Back during the Napoleonic Wars men were indeed very tough.
Lord Nelson once fought an entire battle with his severed arm tucked into his belt
And Lord Admiral Sir Cloudsley Shovel ISN'T a MADE UP NAME!
But, even amongst their contemporaries, both Sharpe and Hornblower were legendary.
Sharpe, who learned to read by studying a page of the Bible that had been smuggled into his Indian Dungeon,
was a working class Northerner who's talents raised him high in the ranks of the Army
at a time when most officers were chinless, cousin fucking, horse faced inbreeds.
Sharpe was a rough diamond with a heart of Gold and a soft spot for the ladies.
Hornblower was the son of impoverished gentry.
Generations of decline had left him with no money and few options
but his honesty, decency and fearlessness made him universally loved and respected amongst his shipmates
All of them except the one psychotic and unreasonable person who developed an irrational hatred of Hornblower,
and devoted their very existence towards destroying him, on every episode.
Hornblower didn't have Sharpes vicious streak
but Sharpe didn't have Hornblowers intelligence.
In a battle to the death, who would win???
SHARPE or HORNBLOWER???
