First attempt at cloning - low temps

Hi all,

I have taken 11 cuttings from various plants in a friends garden.

At the moment they are all stood up straight and have been in an unheated propagator for 24 hours.

They are under 20w's of cool white LEDs but the temps in the propagator are 63.5. The RH is 95%.

I am wondering if this is too low for rooting to occur. The only other place I could put them is in the airing cupboard but I think temps there would be too high.

What are peoples experience of cloning with low temps?

Thanks in advance.

Personally, I just throw mine in a dome and put it on the shelf in my laundry room which stays at relative house temp, around 70 and have never had a problem. The only time I ever did have a problem with rooting temps was using a heat mat. Those things are unreliable as shit! I even bought a digital thermometer/ regulator for it, and still it'll cook roots. If you think the cupboard is warmer than where you have it, then by all means move it. also try to find a daylight LEDs, instead of cool white. They are a better spectrum and produce more heat. May help a bit.

Thanks dude, I managed to get it up to like 65 with my pc left on in the room. I have a 600w hps that is waiting for these to be done, in a cooltube so temps in the tent are steady at 77. No other plants to shade them though and I have read that it fries cuttings with too much light.

Just worried that this is too low for them to root. Its pretty cold here.

If you're running bare bulb, try one of these cheap reflectors from hardware store. I live in a cool place as well and the house gets in the 60's at night if I don't have the heat on. I use 2 of these on 1 dome and it def creates heat in the dome as well as the outside vicinity.IMG_1734.JPG

Will definately look into them, gonna switch the LED light bulbs out for cfls as well.

Thanks man

Im right there with you. Got some at day 10 with no roots in rapid rooters. Just stay patient lol
Any day now for you then. I cant wait to get a hempy train rolling!

Yeah I'd agree that swapping bulbs to CFL will give out more heat, plus you could easy diy a cheap and effective light & heat reflector with one of those disposable sturdy silver tin foil baking trays turned upside down. Also, i like to have a woollen scarf folded under base of my propagator and will wrap sides up in a jumper if needed too. (Shame they not rooting in individual pots/party cups as then you can put each one into a thick woollen sock and keeps roots well toasty! Have lived in many a cold flat before!)

I know exactly which baking trays you mean man! I can get them after work from the same place as i buy the CFLs tomorrow. Thanks.

Good shout on the jumpers and scarves around the bottom/tray too. i will definately do that and wouldnt have even thought of it.

Hehe! You're welcome dude! It should deffo help in day period (lights on), and at night period (lights off) it will more help delay the cold set-in for a couple hours - they'll possibly be similar cold come morning still, just it won't have been such a severe temp drop after lights off and they'd have been in any potential cold for shorter time than without insulation. In fact i insulate my big pots they finish in too - I drawing pin a thick woollen scarf or fleecy blanket round each pot as they love warm roots -Just ensure it's something thick and warm, that you don't mind getting wet and soily!

Plus...... Mainly I just love babying my roots, but also do so as don't know if anyone else read this but i remember reading theory once that plants get slight stress/confusion when there's a more than a certain relative difference in temperature between their root zone and their canopy, so it advised is good in indoors growing to warm roots as HID light won't warm the whole area like the sun would. It seemed to make sense to me though don't know if anyone else has read it?

I personally have never cloned marijuana but I have cloned rosemary successfully under a 150w (good distance) LED using root hormone and a humidity dome I would think it's the same

Thanks. I've only got two unhappy looking clones left. I'll grab one from the local hardware store next time I plan on trying.
