First CFL Grow (PICS)

Hey everyone! This is my first grow so any and all suggestions or tips is completely welcomed!

I'm growing 4 plants (3 of the same unknown bagseed strain and 1 of a seperate unkown kush strain) in a custom rubbermaid laundry hamper that I decided to create.

The box is approx. 18x15x25 inches. I have 3 pc fans blowing on 7 cfl's crammed in the box and the plants seem to be doing good. I made energy drink tall-can reflectors to focus the light intensity on the plants, seems to work well.

I'm currently running a 20/4 light cycle that seems to do just fine. I have to water them about once every day and a half, it gets fairly warm during the day and with the fans constantly blowing, sometimes have to water them more frequently. I fertilize with generic MG diluted plant food about once a week as well.

I plan on transplanting into bigger pots when my foxfarms ocean forest soil arrives, topping the plants then flowering, leaving time in between for the plants to recover and hopefully they turn out good.

Any comments are greatly appreciated! I will try to answer any questions you have as best I can...

looks awesome whats the wattage on those badboys and how old is she?

I have 6 150w and 1 200w. I kind of lost track of how old the plants are, I would guess around a month, a month and a half give or take.

oh, if anyone knows or has any idea of what kind of strain these might be, please let me know. I've seen many pics of plants, but none seem to look like these, alot of them have big fan leaves and seem to get pretty tall, but mine are short, have long branches growing up towards the canopy, and just look a bit different from alot of the strains on here. Maybe it's just the way or place I grew them in? If you know anything about this, feel free to shed some light on the situation. Cheers!

Interesting setup. No one will be able to tell you the strain so just let go of that pipe dream right now. Theyre growing that way because of the way you grew em.

the main stem looks pretty cannon for a month.

Anyway, id flower those asap man cause they aint gonna stay inside of that laundry container any way you look at it.

ya, I figured the strain would always be a mystery. The stems seem to be filling out nice on all of the plants. The biggest plant has about 5 or 6 nodes and might be showing a pre-flower, is this possible? I have them on a 20/4 light cycle for veg/ What do you think the yield will be? I'm not expecting much, but I want to get the full potential of each plant. Is there any signs that point to a plant that is mature enough to flower? sorry, I'm a total noob, so I just want the plants to be the best they can be

they look great for a month. id say at that height, if youre not looking to get stupid with it, start flowering now. There gonna jump up another foot when you change that light schedule. 12/12 by the way lol anyways, there's no way to throw a number on a picture, for that matter even if i was growing it. weight comes from density of bud, which not only changes from wet to dry and smokable, but doesn't NECESSARILY concern the plant. True, some plants have been bread to produce bigger bud sites, but the density of the bud is due to light penetration. Weight will be on you mate! Throw some soft lights in there and let your girls do whats they do. If youre hell bent on colas like coke cans, then id suggest bloom nutrients, but beware! These things are trick for more experienced growers. "Noobs" as you call it, they will wipe you out. I say throw into flower, let them ride, and buy yourself a good handheld jewelers scope. 30x-100x magnification will suit your needs. Youll be using the scope to check the tricomes (the "frosty"stuff) when the plants show sex female hopefully, then begin to mature and bloom. All the while you have started germinating a new batch of seeds for the second grow, tweaking your grow room in the process to fit.

Hell of a lot to digest, but smoke a bowl and tear into the faq section and have the best weed in town! Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice! I'm gonna have to read up on a bunch of stuff for sure. I'm just learning as I go, so it seems like the more the plant progresses, the more new things I have to learn about it! Labour of love though.

So my soil (foxfarm ocean forest mix) finally came in (yay!) I am going to transplant today sometime. I also managed to squeeze another cfl into the box making it a grand total of 8! gettin pretty warm in there....

I am going to switch them over to flowering, I currently have have 5 2700k and 3 5100k cfl's, and I was just wondering if this is sufficient for flowering when I switch to 12/12 light cycle? I'm currently running 20/4 for veg. I think I'll reduce the lights by a half hour everyday until it's down to 12/12, I've heard this is the way to go.

If anyone has any tips or sees any mistakes I might be making or something to watch out for, let me know, it'll be greatly appreciated! cheers!

Hey! Here are some pics of the transplant! It went very well, no big screw ups or anything. Foxfarm soil is supposed to be one of the best, so I used that stuff. The roots looked like they were almost out of room in the containers they were in, so I transplanted just in time! Feel free to leave a comment, I will keep you all updated as much as possible! cheers.

Nah man, that sounds great. When I flower I use a 2700k-heavy mixture like that, as a range of frequencies is considered beneficial. Though instead of 5100k, my 'bright' bulbs are the same 6400k's I use for vegging. Looks like you're giving them great soil and plenty of nutes, and the plants show it. Those babies look like they're loving life, very nice job! Wouldn't have guessed it was a first grow.. cheers sir.

Thanks man! I must have spent 3 weeks reading faq's and grow guides before I started to grow, so that must have paid off well. I know 6400k has better light penetration than my 5100k, but those were the highest K's i could find locally within my price range. Thanks for the compliments! I hope my second grow will be even better! I actually just topped my plants today to increase yield, hopefully they don't get too shocked. Is it okay to switch from a 20/4 light cycle straight to 12/12? or should you gradually decrease the length over time? I plan on gradually decreasing the hours, but if it isn't neccessary, I'll slap those puppies on 12/12 today

I've always just switched straight to 12/12. That's pretty much the norm, as simulating fall would take a while with no benefit that I know of. More effective and efficient to just give them the late autumn "time to flower" cycle straight off. Give 'em 70-120 days and you'll be smoking some elegant bud, my friend!

Just one question... You said that those fans are always on. Do u have some problem with the adapter (is it getting very hot)?

The adapters get fairly warm, but nothing has melted or shorted out so far, which is surprising because I am running 2 fans off of one adapter, so 4 fans and 2 adapters, and it seems to be doing the trick. hope that answers your question.

I was wondering if I should induce flowering in my girls, too. I noticed that yours were around the same height as mine are now. I was going to wait till they were around a foot or so tall, because my flower pots are some what small, but after reading I think I should go ahead and start now. Also, is it possible to tell how much bud you'll pull off of these. Thanks ahead, and good luck with your grow!
