First Floro Grow (comments appreciated)

Ok. so pretty much this is the first time ive ever tried a flourescent grow. Ive grown outdoors successfully and me and a friend have grown indoors under his 600 watt Metal Halide so im doing this as an experiment.

Using:
*Two - 4 four 2 tube fluorescent ballasts
*4 - 48" fluorescent tubes. each bulb with a lumens output of 3400. total lumen output is 13600 lumens
*best organic soil i could pull off for the money.
*1 gallon pot for each plant

i decided since i had three pots i would germinate 5 seeds. only two ended up opening and one had a cm long root tip within 2 nights of germing. i planted both seeds and only one sprouted. that is the one ima be updating you on.

okay. so i wasnt able to get a pic for the first few days due to a dead camera battery but below are pics from the beginning of day four (today) under the fluorescents. Sadly though, one of the first leaves were partially deformed but it still seems to be growing just fine. As you can see it has already started to get its second set of leaves which is remarkable for a fluorescent grow and they seem to be unaffected by the partial deformity. :mrgreen:

okay. so the plant is looking really decent today. woke up and didnt have a chance to check it. came home a few minutes ago and checked it out and i surprised with very nice growth. well atleast to put a smile on my face.

im continuing to do the water cycle where you let it mostly dry before you re-water and im also only using room temperature purified spring water. the baby seems to love it.

Day 5 pics below. you can see the mutant leaf in pic two but the plant is still doing just fine. :cool:

Looking good. are you using flouro's out of neccessity? What about flower, you using flouro all the way through both stages?

skunkushybrid, to answer your question, im doing fluourescent growing just to see if the light output from floros is substantial for growth because ive heard and been told so many times it wont work, but i guess im proving people wrong. :]

and as for flowering, i found some red spectrum floros that put out 3800 lumens each so ima try to use those. i also might add some cfl's.

And so here is an update for day 6. looking pretty good for floros in my opinion.

pic 1 shows how much the length of the leaves have increased over night.

I happen to be very lucky that the plant isnt stretching at all but more focused on growing more green matter. the lighting is suspended about 2" above the top of the plant and it seems to be working just fine.

pic 3 shows a good view of the new growth. as you can see, the little tips of the third set of leaves is beginning to emerge. :mrgreen:

but i have a question. my soil is NOT extended release soil or any of that crap. im just curious when the add some nutes. help please?

There is plenty of evidence to suggest (at least within this site) that vegging with flouro's is fine; as during veg' the cannabis plant doesn't need as much light as it does during flower. Even so, growth rate will be slower and the plants may also take longer to mature.

Where the concern really comes in with flouro's is in flower stage.

What soil are you using? Does it contain nutes?

yea no worries. i plan on atleast introducing about 4000 more lumens of light and changing ALL to the red-spectrum.

i dont know the exact name of the soil. but the nute value is 21-7-14. i know its uneven but its the best organic soil i could find with the highest level of nitrogen and other nutes compared to rest of what they had. and it was quite expense for a little bag of it.

Not sure, i've never used soil with nutes in before... So the only advice I can give is to wait for some signs of undernuting before adding any nutes. Purpling stems and fan leaves turning a lighter shade of green are early enough indicators IMO.

hmm well thanks for the help anyways. im thinking of waiting about another week and start slowing adding nutes by adding a highly diluted 20-20-20 mix and seeing what happens. hopefully it'll soak it right up and love it. WISH ME LUCK!!! :peace:

ive never used a soil with the specs 21-7-14 before and im just curious as to when to add nutrients and what levels to add since i am using this type of soil. HELP PLEASE. thanks. :confused:

hmm. it has now been a week now since the plant has sprouted and been put under lights. vegetative growth is coming along nicely. As you can see there is very healthy foliage and stem growth going on. haha. WOO WOO to floros actually being able to pull off a grow....atleast this much. :mrgreen:

And as you can see in to pics, the mutant first leaves are still there and alive.

still needing some comments and help with the nutrient issue. SO ANYONE OUT THERE WITH INFO PLEASE HELP! it would be greatly appreciated.

let me know how this grow is starting to look for a week old.

Looking sweet. No signs yet of undernuting.

You say you're going to be using a 20 20 20?

The P should be about half of the N during veg'.

hmm. thanks for the tip.

i should be heading over to the garden center within the next couple days so i will definately keep that in mind. but yea. ima start with a highly diluted nutrient supplement and slowly increase it as the plant grows. wish me luck.

Im a little confused I guess as it seems to sound like you kinda believe this is some new way of growing but florescent shop lights for seedlings and clones is the common pracetice.Plants looking good though

no not at all. not at all. ive just been told by a great number of my close friends thats it doesnt produce good results. and im doing this grow just to prove them wrong. i guess its more for my own benefit than any others. sorry for that.
