First Grow - 5 days from Germ

I just switched my little ones from fluorescent and cfl to MH half an hour ago...and I'm excited!

My tent is 4x4, with a 400w HID, 400cfm hydrofarm fan. I'll be getting a carbon filter in a few weeks.
My seedlings are 4 BC Bud Kush and 1 freeby G13 White Lavender.
The White Lavender germinated on the 9th, and the kush germinated on the 10th and 11th.
The soil is vigoro organic (I know, not the best).
The light is currently 2ft from the plant tops.
I covered the stems halfway up with soil yesterday.
Using distilled water.

Thoughts, suggestions?
(At what point do you start counting veg days? Once the cotyledons are gone?)

nice job they look great but id put ur cfl/fluorescent back on them bout 5 inch from the plants for 18hr on 6 off or 24 hr this is called veg-n do it for a month or till ur ready to flower. use ur 400w hps for when u switch to flower stage 12hr on 12hr off.(this is whe u start to produce bud/flower. it will have better results in the end. :)

They've been on 24hr with the cfl /fluorescents and I had planned on going 24hr for another wk on the HPS, then switching to 18/6.
I have HPS and MH. Is it really better to veg on cfl/fluo than HPS?

5" is still a waste of lumens. They're fine at 2"

hps is when u make the switch to 12 n 12 flower. mh can be used for veg as well as ur clf fluoro setup. id veg those plants till thier 12 to 18 inch tall. in your pics they verry young. let them grow till u get 3-4 sets of leafs then lst them (bend them over) keepin ur lights close then when they get all nice n bushy full looking make the swith to ur hps 12 n 12. you should see nice yields off ur babys

Under HPS the plants will stretch more during veg than if they were under the MH or CFL. It's the color spectrum of the light. It's a waste of power.

My bad guys...I switched to MH, not HPS. :) I promise I understand the basics of Veg v Flower.

Between the excitement of switching to HID, and having a few beers, I fucked up the lighting terminology.

Damn noobs!

In the last 4 days a second set of leaves has begun to develop.

One of my plants, the last to germinate, began to have brown leaf tips yesterday, while the rest are fine.
I had been watering them a little daily and this one is in a smaller pot.
Is this over-watering? (I haven't used any nutrients yet)

They have been consistently at 24" under MH, 77-81F, 28-31% humidity.

Yes you are over watering them, its not burn...put your cfls 2-3 inches away. you should only have to water 2-3 times a week...i prefer two, have anymore questions ask always happy to help

Also it could be ph imbalance...when you pick a ph number usually between 5.5-6.5 stick with that number to the end, best for the plant

It could also be that its a bit low on the humid side. I've had issues with that my self (25-30%). A friend came over and put up a small wet towel inside my grow room and told me to change it when it got dry. It bumped it up to 45% straight away. (i guess if it gets to humid, its easy to downsize the towel lol) Seeing ur children, makes it itch to germ some new seeds. I'm all clones'n'mothers these days :P How warm does it get around the MH?

^^ cmon man learn before you preach

have put seedlings right under a 400w MH and they love it just keep them temps under controll and good air circulation and you good...

he isnt using CFL and in his pics they clearly arent "over watered"
