So after a number of years toying with the idea, lurking around on multiple forums and nearly getting on it twice I've finally started my first grow! I decided to grow in coco basically because I knew i wanted to go with more of a hydro set up than soil and I read that coco was more forgiving towards the plants than clay pebbles and stuff, also the thought of growing my buds in some kinda coconut stuff just sounded like it was a pretty cool idea to me man so when I found out my local hydro store had canna coco and all that jazz and seeing so many people recommend it I thought that was the best way to go. So basically as far as nutrients go all I have at the moment is canna coco a+b and rhizotonic. In the lighting department I decided to go with a 250W CFL up until flower (currently on an 18/6 light schedule) and then when I get to that point I was going to switch to a 200W HPS cos i read that they were better for flowering. Probably will also start adding some pk13/14 around then but thats not for another while so I'm not really going to worry about it now. I'm growing acapulco gold as per recommendation from a good mate of mine who knows his fair share about bud.
Since I'm growing for me and my roommate and we manage to smoke a fair amount I was thinking about going for a ScrOG as well to just increase the yield a little, I don't know if that'll work so well with the acapulco gold but eh it's my first try and I'm not exactly expecting perfect results here I'm just trying to learn for the future really. Plus I'm going to be on holiday for a while about a week or two after I'm expecting to harvest so ill only really get a taste of the harvest this time round so if the yield is a little low I won't really mind to be honest I'll just be happy if I manage to keep them all alive and get them to flower in the end.
At the beginning when I first germd the seeds (14 days ago) it was kinda a spontaneous thing and it basically sent me and my roommate all over the place gathering equipment so that when they popped we would be ready (for any other noobs out there I warn you it was a bad plan lets just say mistakes were made) We basically ended up with a little closet about 80x50cm so I guess about a foot and a half by two feet? covered in mylar on the inside with a small fan hanging on one end of it, managed to also get a drip feeding system set up fairly easily. Anyway once we got it all set up and everything I got a little excited and just put the seedlings which had by then sprouted straight into larger pots with a 70/30 mix of coco and perlite, totally forgetting everything I had read telling my otherwise but eh you guys know how it is sometimes. As I said mistakes were made.
So far I've been watering them a tiny bit every day with water and 1/4strength nutes (a+b and rhizontonic) and kept the temperature at around 80F while the lights are on and 65F when they're off with the humidity around 40-50% for most of the time. They're kinda doing ok at the moment but some of them are showing a bit of yellowing but like not on the tips at all really just like the base of the leaves towards the stem. I don't really know what to do with them because I feel like i might just be worrying too much but I mean this is new to me so it could be anything or nothing at all as far as I know (although id lean towards a magnesium deficiency if I had to guess). the pics here are from this morning, couldn't get a good shot of all of them cos my camera is kinda bulky and i didn't want to move the light so it is what it is. I'll be posting updates here though every couple of days probably (unless nothing happens) just so any other noobs out there who are growing their own can do a lil comparison, although i get super busy sometimes with my work and so i might blank out for a while every now and then. But yeah please post any advice or whatever you want really I'm just excited to get started learning how to grow for myself and if anyone else wants to post their set ups or plants go right ahead I'd love to learn about any methods/techniques you guys have to offer! Oh and if you saw my other post on the new members forum I know I'm repeating myself a bit here but I mean I know I talk/type a lot (I mean jesus christ look how big that^ turned out to be) so I figured best keep it out of everyone else's way rather than clogging up other forums with my lengthy noob antics haha
