First Grow - DHN 24 plant Grape Ape DWC SOG T5HO Grow

Hello,
This is my first grow ever, I decided to post some pictures to show how the progress is going. I built a 4.5'x2.5'x4' grow chamber, decided to go with a SOG setup in DWC in order to shorten times between harvest. I have in this setup:

Veg:
8 Lamp T5HO - 6x 6500k AGRO & 2x 5400K Agro Veg lights
3x 14 gallon Rubbermaid Brute totes
3.75" net pots
951 Gal/hr Air pump
2 Airstones per tub
8" Duct fan exhaust
AC Unit
Dyna-Gro Nutrients
Arrowhead Distilled water



I transplanted 24 Dark Heart Nursery Grape Ape clones rooted in rockwool from my local dispensary last Saturday. I added about a 25% strength of Dyna-Gro nutrients to the DWC according to their website's Non-recirculating schedule:
Grow 7-9-5 - 1/8 TSP per/ Gal
Mag-Pro 2-15-4 - 1/16 TSP per/ Gal
Pro-TeKt 0-0-3 - 1/8 TSP per/ Gal

PH was 5.6-5.9
PPM's were 90-100
Air temperature is 77-81 degrees during the day, 66 degree's at night
Humidity fluctuates 36-65% during the day and night
water temperatures 66-69 degrees F.

A day after transplanting I realized that I probably over-watered them since they were getting a little droopy and the rockwool was completely soaked, I lowered the water and allowed them to dry out for a couple days.



Finally after the rockwool cubes were visibly dry, I raised the water level so the bottom of the net pots would be misted the airstone bubbling. I also lightly top fed them in order to keep them from drying out.
One day later I can see a bit of new growth and the roots seem to be growing down out the rockwool cube through the Hydroton pellets. I estimate that by tomorrow night the roots should be poking through the net pots.



I am a little worried about the plants, They still seem a little droopy. Some of the leaves are slightly yellow, the very tips of a couple leaves have turned brown.


I should mention that I have not calibrated my PH tester yet, tomorrow I'm gonna go to the hydro store and get some calibration liquid. My Bottled Arrowhead Distilled water reads 5.9 PH on the tester so I believe it is properly calibrated.
What do you guys think? Do my plants look ok?

They look unhappy.
Distilled water "Should" read 7.0.
Calibrate your meter with proper solution.
Do you have a PPM meter?
You'll need to have that dialed in as well.

Thanks for the reply, the PPM meter I have is calibrated, I just forgot to get the solution for the PH tester. I will check tomorrow once I've got my meter calibrated.

I just calibrated my PH pen to PH 7 water and I double checked my Arrowhead Distilled water, still reads 5.8-6PH. So it appears that my PH pen was properly calibrated after all. Now I'm really not sure what the problem is, the plants just look kinda limp.

I cant say exactly whats wrong with them, but, to me it looks like they might need some N man.

Just checked my PH in the DWC bins and they were 5.3-5.4ph. I added some PH up to get it to 5.6. Plants look in bad shape, the tips of some of the leaves look a little yellow. Also the fan leaves are spiraling, I've never seen that before.

Place your T5s within inches of your plants. i started off my seedlings with the T5HOS at 6" above and now at day 19 its within 2 inches of the plants. No signs of burns.
cool your T5s with a fan blowing so you can get them as close as possible. light is lost the more distance it has to travel, and you want to use as much light as possible.

consider doing a scrog, they work hand in hand with a T5 setup.

give it a while and see if it gets any better, if not im thinking its a nitrogen problem

This morning added more nutes to the middle bin, total for the middle is 175ppm, the other two are 100ppm using the Grow, Pro-tekt and Mag Pro solution.
Plants leaves are turning more noticeably yellow. The leaves are also still very twisted

After looking at the pics closer I realized that the tips were burned, this is happening on all the plants, this is nute burn correct?

Upped the nutes dosage to 125ppm, 170ppm & 130ppm for each 3 bins.
I also noticed that the very tips of some of the roots have turned a little brown, In my bins the water level was a good 2 inches below the pots and some of the pots were not getting a lot of water splashed up into the roots. I believe the brown is caused by excessive drying and oxygen to the tips but I cant say for sure.

Mate two me they don't look healthy, the thing is I don't no about Hydro ....

hope someone pitches in, but if they get any worse, I would look to flush and drop the nutes .....

Thanks man, yeah I might just flush them in couple days if they dont get any better. I cant figure what could be wrong with them, I started with a 25% strength solution at 90ppm, I cant believe that they would be getting nute burn. One thing I forgot to mention is that when I mixed my first solution I measured and mixed each nute into the DWC res w/ the distilled water waiting about 5 mins in between to allow it to mix and dilute with the water. My PH was a little high but I added too much PH down and it dropped to 3.6PH, so I added a little PH up. I went too high with the PH up and was at 6.5 so I added a little bit of PH down to get to 5.8PH. The reason I'm mentioning it is because I'm not sure if this could have caused a nute lockout? I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Hey,

I don't no if you could do it on hydro, like fill a bath with the water leave it for 24hrs so the chlorine evaporates, I do with a basin and I don't need to use ph up or down (there a pain in the arse)even when nutes are in it reads 6.0 ......

I'm using Distilled water so it does not have chlorine in it, PH is about 5.8 out of the bottle which is pretty much perfect for Hydro, I'm just not having very much luck with these things right now.


Today's updates,
Temps today were 63 during night cycle, 79 degree's F during day cycle.
Plants look about the same as yesterday but there is more and more root growth everyday.
I have heard that the stems of plants will turn red or purple if it gets cold, but I am not sure if this is the case as my temps dont go below 60 degrees F ever. Water temps are 66-69 degree's during dark cycle, they might be getting pretty cold during the night cycle but I doubt this is causing an issue since the roots are just now barely reaching the water.

try some phosphorus, thats the sign its giving me on its deficiency. but the ph fluctuation would cause a nute lockout for a little bit but i'd still give it some phosphorus. also mix it with some molybdenum, just verryyyy little. molybdenum deficiency will cause the plant to not into nitrogen or co2 from the air ( closes stomata )
