Hello everyone, I am close to the end of my first grow which I have learned a lot on. I have made a lot of mistakes along the way and continue to keep making them haha. I am just hoping I haven't completely ruined my crop now that I am in the final weeks of flower.
I will try and give quick overview of the grow and attach some pics as well.
I was originally just going to throw these seeds outside and see what happens but while in the germination I realized how much of a temperature fluctuation there was while sitting in the window sill and I that the old T-12 florescent fixtures I had laying around would produce light the plants could photosynthesize . So being the cheap bastard that I am I took some soil from the yard and put the plants indoors.
Now, I have read that my lights were not powerful enough for flower but I had a hard time finding info of how they would turn out and figured I would just try and supplement them with some natural light when I could. However, I ended up on an extended month long vacation and had set up a very jank watering system which washed soil away from some of the roots close to the edge of the pots. This turned my most vigorous growing plant into my weakest plant. However, they were still alive so I tried to give them a little recovery time and switch them to flower.
The tail end of my summer has been pretty lousy for available sun exposure so during flower I only had natural light on 4 days for approx. 2-3 hours on those days. My already weak plants were also not liking the trip up from the basement and buds were being damaged so I decided to keep them under the fluorescence, set up a scrog, and see how they turn out.
Now this is the part that I am sure will set some people off and rightfully so these plants have never had ph balanced water. I did order a tester which took way too long to get here and didn't end up working and my next one on order has yet to show up. So I am almost certain that has a lot to due with issues along the way and as well as currently.
Sorry, I guess that was more long winded than anticipated but I think it gives an overview of how inexperienced I am haha.
**So finally to the issue that I am having which is dark sugar leaves and calyxes.**
I am wondering if these are still consumable buds. I do not believe that it is bud rot, however, like I said before I am a newbie. The humidity has remained between approx 40-50% during flower with the help of a dehumidifier however, that has also caused my temps to fluctuate to ranges that were definitely to hot at times but I think I caught them early when it happened and tried to cool them off accordingly. Could they be cooled off too much at night was another concern, the lowest I caught the next morning when the lights came on was 18 Celsius.
Now, I have topped dressed the soil with some gaia green a couple of times now but I have developed the claw on the fan leaves leading me to believe the ph of my tap water has changed with the change in seasons.
I would appreciate any and all insight to what people think is going on with my buds. I am just hoping these are still good to smoke after the time I have put into keeping them alive but I guess worse case scenario I'll have learned enough to make the clones produce a little better :/
Oh, and the strain is a Super Silver Haze, which has been producing some fairly loose buds overall which I assume is because of the under powered lights but there are some reasonably tight buds on the healthier plants.
My camera doesn't seem to pick up the color differences well but I think it shows the best in the last couple of photos.
Thanks and cheers from Canada everyone!
