First Grow Indoor setup, let me know if I'm at least on track!

Hey everyone!

This will be my first grow and after researching and reading hours upon hours of information on this forum (which has been really helpful) I've purchased the equipment, set it up and would like to know what you think/ ask a couple questions.

My setup is in a closet 2 feet deep, 4' 10" wide and 7 feet tall. I have setup a home made hydro system (drip), covered the walls in mylar, have a variable power fan, home made CO2 supplements, rockwool cubes, clay aggregate, temp. and humidity meter, timers, and a ph test and control kit. I decided to vegetate with cfl and flower hps. I made a reflector (from the diy section) and have 6 47w energy star cfls. I will be purchasing a 400w hps soon. I do not have nutrients yet and i have no exhaust but feel that simply opening the closet every so often will be fine since I am home often.

Some questions:
1. With these lighting conditions, how many plants should I attempt to grow? I have opted to purchase fem. seeds so how many i germ is how many i get. I am growing for personal use so I would prefer quality over quanity for the yield but being able to sell a little to cover utilities would be nice.
2. Has anyone worked with drchronic.com for seeds?
3. Is there anything else I should get to ensure a successful grow?

Man it looks like your off to a good start.
When you get a 400w MH/HPS you will need more ventilation...(damn things put out alot of heat) I have 2 small fans in a 2x4 hydrohut and a large one outside. I just got my 265cfm air mover inn and i am waiting for my 24" cooltube for it. Right now i have to leave one side of the hut unzipped to let out the heat..

sounds good man. if i were u i would either go with just 2 plants and top and train them, or u could maybe fit 6-8 plants in there sog style and do some perpetual harvest and get a steady supply. i went the topping and training way this time but it just takes sooo long lol. with my next grow im gonna be setting up a sog method with a 2 week rotation. 8 plants in flower, so i would be harvesting 2 plants every 2 weeks.

well height really isnt a problem, its a full size 7 foot closet, its the width that im worried about. i could do 4 full size plants in a single row with now problem but would 6 47w cfls be enough to vegetate plants to at least 1.5 feet?

oh yeah thats plenty. right now because all my lights are tied up in the flower room, i have 2 plants vegging under just 1 23watt cfl and they are both almost a 1.5 ft now after about a month and half. one from seed and one a clone. so with that much light u could prolly hit 1.5ft in less than a month

Not a different set up, a suggestion. You will be able to fit 8 plants in that space depending on the system you use, for a first grow with a 400 watt hps. You could crowd a few more in there. If you do you won't have any room for ventilation. If you use a short strain you might even be able to set up a small cloning space in there. VV

ok thanks. after reading a little more i decided that ill probably try a rotation. I just bought 5 fem. "opium" seeds from paradise seeds. Keeping one as a mother in a veg state and flowering the other four id like to set up a clone room so i can have a harvest every two weeks

yes basically bee that is how it works, Captain if you get that hps while your plants are still in veg put that in there and put the cfl's in the lower area that would be almost ideal especially if you bought a few of them "daylight" 6500k cfl's they sell with the cfl's alone getting the plants to 18" will not be a problem why 18"?. Just curious I have no real method i just look and can kind of tell when they are ready for flower whether they are 10" or they are 24" dont hold too tight to your height thing. Last plants i grew, unknown strain, produced over an ounce a plant and i only vegged them to 12-14" they all ended up right around 3' . The biggest ended up 44" but one of the shorter ones produced the heaviest amount. I wish you the best of luck. you will need ventilation in a closet running the 400w HPS they get very hot I have a large area and 1 400w HPS brought temps up from 80 to 90+ I am currently using a fan and just moving the air but it seems to wolrk

You are going to need an exhaust buddy, once you start that HPS is going to get hot int here. I like your setu up though man, good job.

thanks everyone. i'm sticking around that height, most likely a little lower now after reading i want to do a SCrog grow. I figure if i dedicate the entire space to flowering i can fit all five plants. you're right about the hps, my closet is adjacent to my kitchen area (4 bedroom apt. with microwave/ small fridge in each room) im thinking about just drilling a hole through the closet wall and into the cabinet for the exhaust. im trying to get the hps asap so most likely i will veg them under it as soon as i get it ready.

i have got a 65w spot-grow light with a reflecter, iv got a small fan, and there is tinfoil around one side and the other sides there is whitle painted walls the top part above were the light is hanging has no tinfoil and it is in a greenhouse iv got the light on for 15 hours in the day and 11 hours off at night im going to post picters up as soon asposible my computer wont let me post picters right now. just reply or email me at [email protected] SMOKE THE HOLY HERB EVERY DAY.-Vince
